No matter how hard your dreams seem, keep going. You might even have to climb up the side of a building in downtown LA, but it'll all be worth it at the top.

Stay up on that rise,

LYRICS

Had to have high high hopes for a living
Shooting for the stars when I couldn’t make a killing
Didn’t have a dime but I always had a vision
Always had high high hopes
Had to have high high hopes for a living
Didn’t know how but I always had a feeling
I was gonna be that one in a million
Always had high high hopes

Mama said
Fulfill the prophecy
Be something greater
Go make a legacy
Manifest destiny
Back in the days
We wanted everything

Mama said
Burn your biographies
Rewrite your history
Light up your wildest dreams
Museum victories
Everyday
We wanted everything

Mama said
It’s uphill for oddities
The stranger crusaders
Ain’t ever wannabes
The weird and the novelties
Don’t ever change
We wanted everything

Stay up on that rise
Stay up on that rise
Stay up on that rise
Never come down

Mama said don't give up, it's a little complicated
all tied up, no more love and i hate to see you waiting

They say it’s all been done but they haven’t seen the best of me
So I got one more run and it’s gonna be a sight to see

Had to have high high hopes for a living
Shooting for the stars when I couldn’t make a killing
Didn’t have a dime but I always had a vision
Always had high high hopes
Had to have high high hopes for a living
Didn’t know how but I always had a feeling
I was gonna be that one in a million
Always had high high hopes

Mama said don't give up, it's a little complicated
all tied up, no more love and i hate to see you waiting

They say it’s all been done but they haven’t seen the best of me
So I got one more run and it’s gonna be a sight to see

Had to have high high hopes for a living
Shooting for the stars when I couldn’t make a killing
Didn’t have a dime but I always had a vision
Always had high high hopes
Had to have high high hopes for a living

Lyrics:
You rise from the lake bed
Our bodies sink into
The lights from the highway
Were shining shapes on you

I saw you in the water clutching to my hand
Falling deep into your dripping heart again

Last night I found you wet
I was dry but you pulled me in
And we drowned in silence (go down with you again)
We drowned in silence (go down with you again)

We knew when the wave hit
That all our fears were through
I go down with you all the way
Timeless in our tomb

I found you in the water you were soaking wet
Falling deep into your dripping heart again

Last night I found you wet
I was dry but you pulled me in
And we drown in silence (go down with you again)
Drowned in silence (go down with you again)

Last night I saw you wet
I was dry you dragged me in
And we drown in silence (go down with you again)
Drowned in silence (go down with you again)

I found you in the water you were soaking wet
Falling deep into your dripping heart again
I saw you in the water clutching to my hand
Falling deep into your dripping heart again. Again again again

Last night I found you wet
I was dry but you pulled me in
And we drowned in silence (go down with you again)
Drowned in silence (go down with you again)

Last night I saw you wet
I was dry, you dragged me in
And we drown in silence (go down with you again)
Drowned in silence (go down with you again)

Noname: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 3 Просмотры • 3 лет тому назад

Ashley Pointer | November 10, 2023
Out of the thousand and some Tiny Desk concerts to date, it’s seldom an artist returns to the Desk. But when they do, there are a couple requirements: come in a new iteration or present something completely different. In this case, the Chicago-bred, emcee-activist Noname does both when she performs some revolutionary raps from her third album, Sundial, and premieres an unreleased single from hip-hop trio Ghetto Sage, made up of her and frequent collaborators, Smino and Saba.

A lot has changed since Fatimah Warner dropped her classic debut, Telefone, in 2016 and made her first appearance behind the Tiny Desk in 2017. She released a stunning follow-up, Room 25, and she even briefly paused her music career to delve deep into her work as an activist. However, holding a mirror up to herself, her community and the music industry is a signature that persists across her career, and even more so on her album Sundial.

Complemented by her dynamic six-piece band, she performs a few selects from this album including the gospel-infused “Hold Me Down,” which Noname describes perfectly as “a petty love letter to my community.” Then she gets into “Boomboom” featuring the vocalist Ayoni, who delivers a raw and powerful performance. She then invites Smino and Saba up to perform the unreleased “Kush and Love Songs,” delivering clever and conscious bars on top of a swing groove. Concluding the show in true Noname fashion with “Balloons,” she asks the audience: “Where better to do my most controversial song than NPR? Real journalism.”

SET LIST
"namesake"
"hold me down"
"boomboom" (feat. Ayoni)

Bay City Rollers - Bye Bye Baby (1975)• TopPop Hotney 3 Просмотры • 3 лет тому назад

A couple of weeks ago, on April 20, 2021, singer Les McKeown of the Bay City Rollers died. McKeown was born on 12 November 1955, Edinburgh, Scotland). To commemorate him, we highlight this video of one of the Rollers biggest hits.

The Bay City Rollers are a Scottish pop rock band known for their worldwide teen idol popularity in the 1970s. They have been called the "tartan teen sensations from Edinburgh" and "the first of many acts heralded as the 'biggest group since the Beatles'".

The group's line-up had many changes over the years, but the classic line-up during its heyday included guitarists Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood, singer Les McKeown, bassist Alan Longmuir, and drummer Derek Longmuir. The current lineup (since 2018) includes original guitarist Stuart "Woody" Wood, singer Ian Thomson, bassist Marcus Cordock, and drummer Jamie McGrory.
The Bay City Rollers have sold 120 million records worldwide.

"Bye, Bye, Baby (Baby Goodbye)" is a popular song written by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio, a member of The Four Seasons, whose version of the song made it to No. 1 in Canada and No. 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1965.
The Bay City Rollers version made it to no 1 in the UK, sold a million copies and hit No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart for six weeks from March 1975. It ended the year as the UK's top-selling single.
In Australia and Ireland it also reached to no. 1.
In the Netherlands it reached to #11 in the Dutch Top 40.

In the film 'Love Actually' the song is played by Daniel (Liam Neeson) at his wife's funeral, and by the DJ (Junior Simpson) at Juliet (Keira Knightley) and Peter's (Chiwetel Ejiofor) wedding reception.

Lyrics:

Thoughts, drowning in, you can’t fight them
Look I’m ready now - just slow them somehow
Wrongs, reckonings, you can’t right them
Just writing that down - felt stupid till now...

While I’m never gonna’ cross that feeling
And it’s never gonna’ fade away - fight or flight
If there’s logic in your thought, your reasoning
Dreams stay out of sight. Let it be

Maybe the place where I belong is with the ones that still fight
Or is it better we just close our eyes - pretend that they’re right?
All of us kill/killing time - when that's all that they want
Just realise that it's never gonna’ stop

Never gonna’ stop...

Hope, it’s a sin, with past judgement
They settle you down, god jury and crown
Fear, creeping in - try to fight it
One sleight of the hand, distraction - command...

While I’m never gonna’ cross that feeling
And it's never gonna’ fade away - fight or flight
If there’s logic in your thought, your reasoning
Dreams stay out of sight. Let it be

Maybe the place where I belong is with the ones that still fight
Or is it better we just close our eyes - pretend that they’re right?
All of us kill/killing time - when that's all that they want
Just realise that it's never gonna’ stop

Bliss, ignorance isn’t it most of the time
Breeds control, lies & bribes, this new world...
stands idly by, watching this tragedy close
Skin blood bones, blended in a monochrome
Bliss, ignorance isn’t it most of the time
Missing skin and chrome - merging into one...

Maybe the place where I belong is with the ones that still fight
Or is it better we just close our eyes - pretend that they’re right?
All of us kill/killing time - when that's all that they want
Just realise that it's never gonna’ stop

Never gonna’ stop...

LYRICS:
O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn

Oh Fall on your knees
O hear the angels’ voices
O night divine!
O night when Christ was born
O night divine!
O night, O night divine!

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother
And in His name, all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise His holy name

Fall on your knees
O hear the angels’ voices
O night divine!
O night when Christ was born
O night divine!
O night, O night divine!
