[Release Date]
The Main Ingredient is the second album by Pete Rock & CL Smooth, released on October 8, 1994. It would become their last album together.

[Music]
Characterized by sultry soul and jazz samples, The Main Ingredient saw a more polished sound than the duo’s debut, building on the praise that they had already garnered. The album is notable for its snappy, crispy drums and extensive use of vocal scratches, usually from songs by Biz Markie. Although missing a centerpiece on the scale of "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)", the album contains some of the duo's best known work, in the form of tracks such as the upbeat "In The House", and the catchy "Sun Won't Come Out", which features a lush vocal sample from the song of the same name by Harvey Scales.

Continuing a theme initiated by Mecca and the Soul Brother, brief instrumental interludes are placed at the beginning and end of songs. With the exception of just a few tracks, this feature is recurrent throughout the album. In addition, The Main Ingredient saw Rock fleshing out and defining his trademark production style, which is now recognized for often containing smooth basslines, swirling horns, filtered samples, and spacious grooves. The production on this album proved to be influential upon a legion of latter day producers.

[Reception]
Though overlooked at the time of its release, the album has since been re-evaluated with high critical acclaim. AllMusic's Stanton Swihart called it "an album that is far more focused" and "just as good as the first record, perhaps an even more satisfying single listen." Swihart described Rock's production work as "among some of the most seductive in hip-hop", and CL as "lyrically on point, spitting out intellectual rhymes and narratives that are just as propulsive and engaging as the music."

"I Got A Love" was the album's lead off single, followed by "Take You There" and "Searching", released in 1995. That same year, the duo appeared in a well received Sprite commercial; however, they soon announced their breaking up citing creative differences, although both parties have since admitted that an unstable working relationship was the main cause of their split. The album was a favorite of the late producer J Dilla, who played it while meeting with Pete Rock to record Slum Village's "Once Upon A Time" for the album, Fantastic, Vol. 2 in 1998.

Frederick Theodore Albert Delius, CH (29 January 1862 – 10 June 1934), originally Fritz Delius, was an English composer. Born in Bradford in the north of England to a prosperous mercantile family, he resisted attempts to recruit him to commerce. He was sent to Florida in the United States in 1884 to manage an orange plantation. He soon neglected his managerial duties and in 1886 returned to Europe.

Prelude to Irmelin (1890-92)

Royal Philharmonic conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham

Irmelin is an opera in three acts with music by Frederick Delius. Composed between 1890 and 1892, it was the first opera which he finished. But it wasn't premiered until 1953, nearly twenty years after his death. The libretto was by the composer, and weaves together two mythical stories. Philip Heseltine described the opera as a "fairy-tale of quite ordinary kind" and "its form dramatically rather below the level of the conventional operatic text. Though the music was much praised by Grieg and Messager... its performance was never seriously contemplated by the composer". Delius had however assimilated Wagnerian influence in his music, with use of key motifs and a sense of flow through the three acts.

Performance history
Sir Thomas Beecham directed the British premiere at the New Theatre Oxford on 4 May 1953; the costumes were by Beatrice Dawson and choreography by Pauline Grant. Beecham's advocacy of the score and "care with which he realizes each detail, the beauty of sound he elicits from his orchestra", were praised by the Opera critic, along with Dennis Arundell's production.

Florent Schmitt arranged the piano scores of Delius's first two operas, Irmelin and The Magic Fountain, but the first full Irmelin score was a vocal score compiled by Dennis Arundell in 1953.

► Lyrics ◄

Captivate me
Become my escape
I can’t look away
You were my everything

If the past is just dust
Then the future could be our dream
If all we have is now; this eternity
Ignite my satisfaction
Engulf me

We’re dancing like flames flickering in the night
We sway in time with the wind before melting away
You’re far from my reach but not far out of sight
You know the way to my heart but you just play
the strings again

Flicker like shadows dancing beyond the flame
Captivate, hypnotized
By the fire in her eyes
You took me by surprise
And then you disappeared in the blink of an eye

Pull me into the pyre
Engulf me in flames
Captivate me
Eidolon
Gravity
Magnetic
Pull me toward my ecstasy

Flicker like shadows dancing beyond the flames
Enchanting, mesmerized
Take what is left of my life
A wrinkle in time
Where do you go

A wrinkle in time
Take what is left of my life
Before you go show me what it‘s like
to finally know
The face behind the silhouette in this world I made
to be infinite
But within the expanse - I finally see
A world without you isn’t meant for me

Where do you go when I close my eyes
What do you see looking back at me
Am I just a ghost just like you caught between the
seams of two intertwining melodies

Lyrics:
Say your prayers, little one, don't forget, my son
To include everyone
I tuck you in, warm within, keep you free from sin
'Til the Sandman, he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land

Something's wrong, shut the light, heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of Snow White
Dreams of war, dreams of liars, dreams of dragons' fire
And of things that will bite, yeah

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land
Yeah-hah

Now, I lay me down to sleep (Now, I lay me down to sleep)
Pray the Lord my soul to keep (Pray the Lord my soul to keep)
If I die before I wake (If I die before I wake)
Pray the Lord my soul to take (Pray the Lord my soul to take)
Hush, little baby, don't say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
It's just the beasts under your bed
In your closet, in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land

The Notorious B.I.G. is widely recognized as one of the world’s most influential rappers and has sold more than 17 million albums in the U.S. alone. Before his murder in 1997, Christopher Wallace recorded two classic albums as The Notorious B.I.G. The record topped the U.S. album charts and featured the hits “Hypnotize” and “Mo Money Mo Problems.” It remains one of the few hip-hop albums to ever achieve Diamond certification from the RIAA.

LYRICS
[Wyclef Jean]
Ay! Wake up, wake up!
You've got the power (x2)
My people in the east shore, you gotta wake up
Midwest, dirty south, yo, you gotta stand up
All my homies in the west, yo, you gotta wake up

Wake up, wake up (x9)

[Mary J. Blige]
Wake up everybody, no more sleeping in bed
No more backwards thinking, time for thinking ahead
The world has changed so very much from what it used to be
There's so much hatred, war and poverty

[Monica]
Wake up all the teachers, time to teach a new way
Maybe then they'll listen to what you have to say

[Claudette Ortiz]
Cause they're the one's who coming up
The world is in their hands
When you teach the children
Teach them the better questions you can

[Eve]
Uh... scream "peace," do we mean it?
Can you feel it when we scream it out loud?
Do you believe that we need it?
Do you believe that it could get right?
Do you believe
That the children of the world deserve a good life?
Well, if you do, it's time to wake up your mind
We can make it better and I know it might take some time
But we gotta start somewhere
How about with you and me?
From us it goes to others
Then we'll have our unity

[Musiq Soulchild]
Wake up all the doctors, make the old people well
They're the ones who suffer and who catch all the hell
But they don't have so very long before their Judgment Day
So won't you make them happy before they pass away

[Ashanti]
Wake up, all the builders time to build a new land
I know we can do it if we all lend a hand
The only thing we have to do is put it in our mind
Surely things will work out

[Faith Evans]
'Cause they do it every time

[Fabolous]
I ain't here to take up y'all time
I came to shake up y'all mind
It's everybody's wake up call time
I can't sleep too long
While they do the people wrong
Let's clean the world up
Before they sweep through, gone
This is real talk you can peep through songs
So when you feel weak
These words will keep you strong
And help make a change for the better
It's hard one to do it
But make can make some changes together

(2x) [Chorus:]
The world won't get no better
If we just let it be
The world won't get no better
We gotta change it, yeah, just you and me

[Ad-libs: Brandy]
Hey, yeah, oh
Get no better
Let it be
Oh, we gotta change it yeah
Oh, won't get no better
Let it be, let it be, let it be
Better

[Jadakiss]
Set a goal for the plan up here
We gotta stand up here
Give thanks to The Man Upstairs
Put the egos and the pride to the side regardless
And just be role models, parents, artists
We can make a change
And we can make it the hardest
If you gon' make a baby
You should make him the smartest
Let him know good and bad, right from wrong
How to roll with the punches when life moves on
The stress won't take toll if you don't sweat it
World won't get no better if we don't let it
Let the negative energy ride
Keep hope alive
It's about time that we open our eyes
Wake up

[Jaheim]
Wake up everybody, no more sleeping in bed
No more backwards thinking, time for thinking ahead
The world has changed so very much from what it used to be
There's so much hatred, war and poverty

(Wake up! Wake up!)

[Missy Elliott]
Yup, we all best to vote
I don't care about the guns you tote
Listen to me like you listened to Fahrenheit 9/11
Ain't no time for the second guessing
The words I speak?
Wake up the ones who sleep
The leaderships?
Fix your mouth to teach
Emcees?
Teach the kids what's peace
They don't have to worry about the police
We make them rich so they don't have to thief
Every artist here on this track
Will make a change here for young cats
This is for everybody white or black
You better go and vote
And get up off your back

(3x) [Vamp:]
Wake up everybody, no more sleeping (x3)
Wake up everybody, time for thinking, thinking
