Lyrics:
So I hear you're wonderin why I left
Think it’s time I get this off my chest
Couple things I wanted to address with you, with you
No discussion when I tried my best
Aint no helpin you, you a mess
It’s a wrap, yo it ain’t no test
Cause you, cause you

Always play the victim like it’s an addiction
Lyin by omission, every word is twisted
Never listen, venom in your system, master of division

(Yeah yeah)
This is why, this is why, this is why
This is why you’re on your own
(On your own, you're all alone)
This is why
(On your own, oh)
See…this is why, this is why, this is why
This why you’re on your own
Why

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Uh this is why I’m on my own
Jackass, played myself like Donkey Kong
She don’t condone it, playin games though she only grown
I’mma rolling stone and she lookin for a cornerstone
I can’t believe she really left me
Like Weezy F me
She supposed to block them other b****** out like Lisa Leslie
Even when she bein mean, she sexy
She text me just to say she didn't mean to text me…it’s stressing
This is why I guess she keep me guessing
Friends tell her I’m a dog but the teacher pet me
So have some class girl, cause you was Wayne’s world
Now you just some man’s world…damn girl

(Yeah yeah)
This is why, This is why, This is why
This is why you’re on your own
(On your own, you're all alone)
This is why
(On your own, oh)
See…this is why, This is why, This is why
This is why you’re on your own
Why

Cause you make a promise in vain
Then you blow it next day
Anything you touch breaks
Now you comin my way
Stay in your lane, I ain’t making no space
You gon’ drive me insane

(Yeah yeah)
This is why, This is why, This is why
This is why you’re on your own
(On your own, you're all alone)
This is why
(On your own, oh)
See…this is why, This is why, This is why
This is why you’re on your own
Why

Now you wanna run around and drain my energy
All that shit is catching up to you eventually
Eventually, yeah
Yeah yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

“I feel no remorse”: BBC questions gangster who ordered hit on Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala Hotney 16 المشاهدات • منذ 1 عام

The Killing Call: Sidhu Moose Wala and the Murder that Shook India

Three years after the murder of Punjabi hip-hop icon Sidhu Moose Wala, BBC Eye questions the gangster who says he ordered the killing.

On 29 May 2022, Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was murdered by hired gunmen who ambushed his car, shot him through the windscreen, and left him to die. As news of the killing spread across India and around the world, a gangster named Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the hit. But three years later, no-one has been convicted of this murder, the motives remain murky, and Goldy Brar is still on the run.

#BBCEye Investigations has been talking to some of the people closest to Sidhu Moose Wala, tracing his rise from obscurity to stardom, finding out how he made enemies of India’s most feared gang, and asking why they wanted him dead.

It’s a story that takes us from the villages of rural India to the hip-hop scene of eastern Canada, from the turbulent history of Punjab to the contested politics of modern India, and from the shadowy world of organised crime to a chilling phone call with the fugitive gangster who says he ordered the hit.

Michael Mayo: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 16 المشاهدات • منذ 1 عام

Mitra I. Arthur | September 8, 2025
Michael Mayo uses every muscle within his throat when he sings. From his deep baritone chest to wonderfully fluttering head voice, he joyfully bends notes to his will and for our enjoyment at the Tiny Desk.

I was first introduced to Mayo’s voice when he participated in a master class with jazz titan Dianne Reeves during the 2013 American Voices festival at the Kennedy Center. As he folded his voice around the standard "It Could Happen to You," Reeves prompted him to follow her as she began to scat. Without hesitation, Mayo harmonized and traded back and forth with Reeves as if they had rehearsed it (they had not), thoroughly impressing her and the audience. As I watched from off-stage, I thought, “Oh, this cat has it.” He exists in a lineage of similarly dexterous singers like Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau and Betty Carter.

In the years since, Mayo has established himself as a presence in the intersection of jazz, soul and R&B. His albums, Bones and Fly, showcase his nimble vocals, thoughtful lyrics and intricate compositions, and have generated collaborations with bassist Linda May Han Oh and drummer Nate Smith, and touring opportunities with pianist Herbie Hancock.

Here, Mayo presents a selection of songs that invite you into his wondrous artistry. Alita Moses, India Carney and Tomás Cruz showcase their own skillful vocal agility in their handling of Mayo’s vocal arrangements. Pianist Andrew Freedman, drummer Robin Baytas and bassist Nick Campbell Destroys are locked in at every turn. As Mayo prepares to shift into the final song in the set, he drops into an intricate scat, his voice hopscotching, bending, soaring, resting for a moment and reigniting in percussive sound.

Certainty
So certain every day you have found the perfect way to guard the lions from the slaughter you have started.
And thank god you never say what you’re never meant to say, with iron might you drink up all your sorrows.
Fame is the torch you burn you decide who shines
You were lost and I have tried to save
but something I said has made me the other
Certain of the price that I should pay
All of my pride and fear at the altar

I retrace now, every countdown
And my mind clicks like heart beats
Do you want to cut my tongue out, serve it up and silence me?

You’re not the answer to the question
I’m not the saviour you thought I’d be.
Even still I wonder, do you hear me when you remember that I bleed?

You were lost and I have tried to save
But something I said has made me the other
Certain of the price that I should pay
All of my pride and fear on the altar

And now I know that there’s something
brighter I just can’t see…
Let it go

You were lost and I have tried to save
But something I said has made me the other
Certain of the price you’ll never pay and
all my pride and fear will take me down.

Lyrics:

Well it only goes til the sun explodes
And I’d only hope that you know I owe you my life
Do you know I owe you my life?
Well do you know? Do you know?

While I was thinkin bout you at your favorite bar
They were playing old pornos on the VCR
Why should I feel so close to you
When you are so far

That night I dreamed when I got home
I heard your voice on my telephone
And when I woke up
I was all alone

Then the sun slowly rose
On that lonely coast

And I only hope
That you know I owe you my life
Well do you know I owe you my life?
Until the sun blows up in the sky
I owe you my life

I been to spots that you used to go
I hear you coming through the radio
It’s always at the strangest moments
It’s almost like you know

Cus when you sing those songs the way you do
People get up get up makin love and they want to move
Oh it’s so truly truly true
So now what can I do?

As the sun slowly rose
On that lonely coast
And I only hope
That you know I owe you my life
Well do you know I owe you my life?
Do you know I owe you my life?
My only one
My lullaby in a loaded gun
I’m alive
Do you know I owe you my life?
Until the sun blows up in the sky
I owe you my life

It’s so good now hard to believe
Is this how it’s supposed to be
Should have been for you
You instead of me
I don’t know, but people say
The sun will explode in the sky someday
But that’s so very far away
So right now we’re okay

But it only goes
Til the sun explodes
And I’d hope you know
I’ll always owe you my life
Do you know I owe you my life?
Do you know I owe you my life?
My only one
My lullaby in a loaded gun
I’m alive
Do you know I owe you my life?
Do you know I owe you my life?
Do you know I owe you my life?
Until the sun blows up in the sky
I owe you my life

Harmonize - Yazoee (Official Music Video) Hotney 16 المشاهدات • منذ 5 الشهور

Yazoee” by Harmonize is a soulful Bongo Flava anthem that beautifully captures the highs and lows of love and life with raw honesty. Produced by GM, the track blends smooth melodies with deeply reflective lyrics that speak directly to the heart touching on emotions, life lessons, and the realities many face in relationships.

Throughout the song, Harmonize reminds listeners that love is not always easy. In the line, “Wanasema mapenzi ni kitovu cha uzembe, mkulima usichague jembe,” he emphasizes that love requires effort, patience, and resilience. It’s about staying committed and grounded, even when things don’t go as planned. He reinforces this with the message: “Don’t be so emotional, don’t take too personal,” encouraging emotional control and maturity during difficult moments.

“Yazoee” also reflects real-life dynamics, particularly the connection between love and financial stability. With the line, “Mapenzi hayatabiri, bila pesa watammiliki,” Harmonize highlights how financial challenges can influence relationships, sometimes putting them to the test.

At its core, the song carries a message of hope and perseverance urging listeners to rise after every fall, keep moving forward, and learn to accept the realities of love. With its heartfelt storytelling, memorable hook, and timeless message, “Yazoee” is more than just a song it’s a reflection of everyday life and the strength it takes to keep going.
