The story of Alien Ant Farm and their album Anthology and how the band's success was overshadowed by their cover of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal.

#Alienantfarm #michaeljackson #smoothcriminal

Alien Ant Farm exploded into the mainstream in the summer of 2001 thanks to a song they never meant to rely on: their cover of Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal. The track became inescapable on radio and MTV, but it came with unintended consequences. The band spent years wrestling with being known primarily for a joke cover that was never meant to be a single, even briefly refusing to play it live. Behind that song sat Anthology, a diverse, ambitious record whose history reveals how four misfit musicians from Riverside clawed their way into the nu‑metal era without ever really fitting in.

N.O.R.E. & DJ EFN are the Drink Champs. In this episode we chop it up with the legend, Turk!

Turk pulls up for a raw, real, and unfiltered conversation that takes fans straight into the heart of New Orleans hip hop. As one of the original members of the legendary Hot Boys, Turk sits down with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN to break down his journey from the streets of Uptown to Cash Money Records and global rap success. He opens up about the early days of the Hot Boys movement alongside Lil Wayne, Juvenile, and B.G., and what it was like watching New Orleans become the epicenter of hip hop in the late ’90s.

Turk speaks candidly about the highs and lows of fame, the pressures of the industry, and the personal struggles that tested his resilience, including incarceration and rebuilding his life after it all. With plenty of laughs, real talk, and classic Drink Champs energy, he reflects on loyalty, brotherhood, and the lessons learned from navigating both success and setbacks. Turk also talks about his evolution as an artist, his independence, and staying true to himself in a constantly changing music landscape.

This episode is a powerful reminder of perseverance, legacy, and the lasting impact of Southern hip hop. Whether you’re a longtime Hot Boys fan or new to Turk’s story, this is an episode you don’t want to miss.

Make some noise for Turk! 💐💐💐🏆🏆🏆

Lyrics:
Daytime mainlining,
No more rolling papers,
Catching stray dogs,
Try but you can’t tame them,

It’s just me,
On my knees,
Squeaky clean fantasy,
It’s meant to be pop,

Am I in over my head?,
This could go anywhere,
I do it and do it again,
It’s meant to be pop,
I don’t know how it’ll end,
This could go anywhere,
I pull and I pull at the thread,
It’s making me pop,
I wanted to behave,
But I know I’ll do it again,
I know I’ll do it again,
It’s making me pop,
(I wanna take up all your time),

Katie’s waiting,
To be your game day savior,
First time tasting it,
It’s nice to mix two flavors together,
Together mhmm,

It’s just me,
On my knees,
Pop

Am I in over my head?,
This could go anywhere,
I do it and do it again,
It’s meant to be pop,
I don’t know how it’ll end,
This could go anywhere,
I pull and I pull at the thread,
It’s making me pop,
I wanted to behave,
But I know I’ll do it again,
I know I’ll do it again,
It’s making me pop,

Billy Idol - Eyes Without A Face. An exclusive performance for Vevo.

You could tell by the way he raged through Generation X's "Ready Steady Go" in 1978, when punk was peaking. Billy Idol filled the performance with a blend of vehement put-down and celebratory joy. Once he split from the band and went solo, that rage, along with a sweet sneer and a lot of lust, still defined his public stance. His self-titled '82 debut contained the pounding "White Wedding." It's wildly successful follow-up, cut at NYC's Electric Lady Studios, blasted along on the power of numerous hits, including "Rebel Yell," "Catch My Fall," "Flesh for Fantasy," and "Eyes Without a Face." The singer is currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of this victory, and he came into our LA studio to knock out feisty versions of the title cut and "Eyes Without A Face." In an exclusive Footnotes interview, he also explained how the latter vid was conceived and created (think graveyards and monsters). His old pal Steve Stevens was on guitar, of course. Together they put plenty of oomph in the former and bit of evil in the latter. Check the performances, and be aware that a deluxe 40th anny version of the album awaits you wherever vinyl is sold.

In this clip, 2Pac’s first cousin, Jamala Lesane, shares a firsthand account of a tense moment in the days leading up to his trip to Las Vegas. She recalls 2Pac being mad and arguing on the phone over issues surrounding his masters, describing it as a level of anger she says she had never seen from him before.

The interview was conducted by The Art of Dialogue contributor, Delray Richardson, and offers insight into 2Pac’s mindset during this critical period, shedding light on the frustration and pressure he was dealing with behind the scenes before the events that unfolded in Vegas.

This episode of The Real Report features Dawgface out of Detroit pulling up with Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda for a raw and unfiltered conversation that dives deep into Detroit culture, street codes, and the music industry—from explaining the connection between Detroit and NYC and the city’s slang to breaking down his rise through viral moments and podcasting in his hometown. Dawgface gives his take on the current state of the city with strong opinions on the Top 5 rappers in Detroit and how artists like Tee Grizzley shifted the sound, while also reacting to major headlines including the Klay Thompson and Megan Thee Stallion drama, calling out the situation in his own blunt way. The crew also touches on street accountability, checking in across cities, and industry pitfalls, highlighted by discussion around AllStar JR getting picked up by the feds and whether Pooh Shiesty fumbled the bag, tying in commentary about Gucci Mane being seen as a civilian and what that means for credibility, leading into a broader conversation about protecting opportunities, street mentality vs. business moves, and how quickly things can go left in both the streets and entertainment world.
