The young Amy Winehouse from North-London is one of the new, twinkling singer/songwriter stars. Let’s make one thing clear: Winehouse may be only twenty, but her subjects are a lot wiser and more explicit than those of your average One Hit Wonder in the charts. She commands a lot of different styles as we can hear on her debut CD Frank. From seventies soul and modern R&B she goes straight into jazz classics that she gives the sweltering soul ballad approach. Producer Pioneers is a brand-new event series presented by Classic Album Sundays and Resident Advisor which will celebrate, educate and aim to inspire the next generation of women producers within the music production space.

Although there are steps towards a more balanced industry, today only a staggering 6% of producers identify as women, proving that there is still a huge bridge to gap until we are closer to a more equal and democratic situation. All sorts of barriers are faced by many women artists including tokenism within bookings, lack of access to resources, lack of confidence when dealing with a majority male landscape. Producer Pioneers aims to be a part of this solution, providing a platform and set of educational tools to support change and motivate the next generation of women producers.

Masterminded by DJ and producer, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, the series will unite some of the world’s most acclaimed women producers, kicking off the series is the unstoppable force of underground dance music, Honey Dijon. The conversation dives deep into her production methods, as well as breaking down her key musical influences.

Producer Pioneers is supported by Danley Sound Labs and Audio Technica – brands which fully understand the mission to create a more balanced and democratic future in the world of audio.

In 1991 music changed forever. Three misfits from Aberdeen, Washington unleashed “Smells Like Teen Spirit” onto the world and alternative rock became the mainstream. Grunge wasn’t so much a genre as a close knit selection of bands that came from the same approximate area, its epicentre being Seattle. Indus Blues is a musical feature documentary highlighting the plight of the folk musicians and craftsmen of Pakistan and the state of their dying art.

The film created waves in both local and international media upon the release of its trailer and initiated the much-needed debate about the radicalization of the society in Pakistan.

The film has already received recognition with nominations at CPH_DOX-Copenhagen, DOKUARTS-Berlin, DOKUFest-Kosovo, DOCEDGE-Netherlands, WOMEX, Regina International Film Festival and Guam International Film Festival respectively and winning the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary Feature Crystal Award in the latter. The film has also won "Best Feature Documentary" and "Best Cinematography" Awards at Jaipur International Film Festival, India.

A journey spanning the 2,000-mile length of the Indus, it showcases the rich musical traditions across the diverse, and colorful cultures of Pakistan. The film not only presents their mesmerizing art but also shows the face of the underappreciated indigenous humanism in Pakistan.

The diverse cultures around Indus, with over 70 spoken languages, have deep roots going back centuries. Despite the richness of the various cultures flourishing along the mighty Indus river, their sounds have faded to the background in a world dominated by modern musical instruments.

Paavo Järvi: The Estonian star conductor has rediscovered the four symphonies by Johannes Brahms. The film follows him and the orchestra at rehearsals, in the studio and at concerts and presents the highlights of the romantic masterpieces.

Paavo Järvi is principal conductor at both the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich - but his most intensive collaboration is with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie in Bremen. Their collaborations have already inspired both press and audiences with dazzling interpretations of the symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann. Now the conductor and orchestra are focusing exclusively on the four symphonies of Johannes Brahms. "That music - because it is so great - somehow is a soundtrack not only to the time when it was written but it is actually quite a valid soundtrack to our times as well." Järvi says. The charismatic conductor conveys his enthusiasm for the masterpieces and gives important information for understanding them. "There are little hidden codes, which is up to us to figure out what they mean."

The conductor and orchestra take a lot of time to reinterpret these well-known symphonies. "When I conduct Kammerphilharmonie or have conducted them in the last couple of years it’s only been Brahms," he says. "And the focus is so concentrated that it has become a second nature. In fact it’s almost a kind of religious ritual for the orchestra: There is always rehearsal before the concert. It doesn’t matter how many times we have done the piece. And these are the moments where you tweak, you do little things, you fine-tune... It’s a luxury that so few orchestras have." Thus the rehearsals have become a musical laboratory.

The Brahms Code is director Christian Berger’s the third collaboration with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Paavo Järvi. The DW productions "Das Beethoven-Projekt” (2010) and "Schumann at Pier 2" (2012) have already delighted international audiences and won many awards.

We’re Still Here: Johnny Cash’s Bitter Tears Revisited is a feature documentary based on Antonino D’Ambrosio’s critically acclaimed book A Heartbeat and a Guitar: Johnny Cash and the Making of Bitter Tears, which tells the astonishing story behind Cash’s little known concept album and his unique collaboration with folk artist Peter La Farge. With this still largely unknown recording, Cash placed himself in the middle of the fervent social upheavals gripping the nation at the time (many of which still enflame us in the present). Cash faced censorship and an angry backlash from radio stations, DJs, and fans, for speaking out on behalf of Native people on “Bitter Tears: Ballads of the American Indian.” He decided to fight back.
