LYRICS

who do you think i am, to be alone
who do you think i am, to let you go
found you and i’m holding on, holding on
i’m yours to belong, even when it’s wrong
to think i, would throw it all,
all of the memories, the memories no
so you could love, love another
just no
i won’t ever let you go that easy
i wont ever let you go that easy
i won’t let you love me just to leave me
i won’t ever let you go that easy
don’t go that easy
hello my long lost
tell me why did it take you long
to make your way right to me
yea you must’ve traveled far
i tore down my guard
so you could really see my heart
oh you must be crazy if you think i would restart
i won’t ever let you go that easy (i won’t let you go)
i wont ever let you go that easy (i won’t let you go)
i won’t let you love me just to leave me (i won’t let you go)
i won’t ever let you go that easy
dont go that easy
no i’ll never let you go, oh
never let you go,
and i won’t let you love me to deceive me
oh baby i just want you to receive me
and it’s so hard to love, baby it ain’t easy
oh, no, no, no won’t you believe me
and it’s so hard to love
baby it ain’t easy
don’t try to deceive me
baby it ain’t easy
go!
i won’t ever let you go that easy (i won’t let you go)
i wont ever let you go that easy (i won’t let you go)
i won’t let you love me just to leave me (i won’t let you go)
i won’t ever let you go that easy
dont go that easy now
oh oh, i want you next to me when i wake up
think i’m pretty even with no makeup
sorry i’m just being sentimental
love it when you hold me, yea you gentle
we are never ever gonna break up
no other way to have it baby
loving you a habit, you my drug and i’m the addict
there’s no way that ima ever let you go

Lyrics:

It seems you believe in the words as tokens
Your heart still succumbs to the fear unspoken
And some, I know, are filled with courage
But most, I know, will not be chosen

But don't feel afraid as the storm blows this way
Know that truth can't fail us - can't enslave us
But don't feel afraid as the storm blows this way
Know that truth can't fail us - can't enslave

In dreams we escape to a world unbroken
And those whom we hate will become awoken
And some, I hope, will die as martyrs
But most ovine souls will end in slaughter

But don't feel afraid as the storm blows this way
Know that truth can't fail us - can't enslave us
But don't feel afraid as the storm blows this way
Know that truth can't fail us - you can't

Shut your eyes (as you surround me with pain)
Judas mind (as you betray me again)
Take your time (as you surround me with pain)
Judas mind (as you betray me again)

But don't feel afraid as the storm blows this way
(Tell me it's okay, tell me it's alright, lead me to shelter, black out the sunlight)
Know that truth can't fail us - can't enslave us
But don't feel afraid as the storm blows this way
(Tell me it's okay, tell me it's alright, lead me to shelter, black out the sunlight)
Know that truth can't fail us - you can't

Shut your eyes (as you surround me with pain)
Judas mind (as you betray me again)
Take your time (as you surround me with pain)
Judas mind (as you betray me again)

Sierra Ferrell: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 7 Streams • 2 years ago

Ann Powers | August 14, 2024
Sierra Ferrell is the May Queen of American roots music — no matter what month it is. For her summertime stop at the Tiny Desk, the West Virginia native adorned herself in garb befitting Florence Pugh’s star turn in Midsommar, a trail of cloth pansies encircling her eyes. Ferrell, whose 2024 album is appropriately called Trail of Flowers, quickly showed that her finery wouldn’t get in the way of a stellar musical performance; her fiddling in this set’s first song “I Could Drive You Crazy” anchored both the band and the entire performance in the technically challenging yet boisterous, bluegrass-meets-old-timey sound that’s made Ferrell a fast-rising star alongside friends like Billy Strings and Zach Bryan. Focusing on the music, only pausing for some whimsical banter about the legendary city of tunnels that lies beneath Washington, D.C., Ferrell showed how her blend of warmth, chops and inventiveness is remaking Americana music.

A former busker who learned roots music during her itinerant twenties, Ferrell shows no fealty to any one style while honoring many in her sparkling, insightful songs. For “Dollar Bill Bar” she switched to guitar and sang with the sexy ease of a young Bonnie Raitt as Oliver Bates Craven spooled out some Beatles-esque guitar licks. (He and mandolinist Josh Rilko have played with Ferrell off and on since she first wowed Nashvillians a decade ago on hipster nights at the American Legion Hall.) Then the band shifts to a Spanish stroll for “In Dreams,” throws in a bluegrass breakdown, and ends the set with the beautiful “American Dreaming,” a ballad that Linda Ronstadt might have recorded in her early days. No circus hoop descended for Ferrell to grab and levitate — as she did at her last Nashville New Year’s Eve show — but she’d still managed to fill the Tiny Desk with sparkle and joy.
