Junichi Masuda's soundtrack for the original Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow games is iconic. Despite the limited hardware offered by the Gameboy, Masuda managed to create some highly effective music, and he did so with a little inspiration from his favourite classical composers.

Bach is often, and quite rightly, cited as a musical genius, but what is it exactly that makes his music so clever? Well, today we're going to take a closer look at three examples of his big brain contrapuntal composing!

Upper chord extensions are notes we add to a chord which stretch beyond the octave, so for example, 9ths, 11ths and 13ths. Chords like these can often seem somewhat intimidating if you've not been introduced to them as they come with a whole range of "rules" and conventions on how to play them. So hopefully today I can break down some of the mystery surrounding these lush, beautiful chords!

For the first half of the 20th century, jazz was the king of music! But even if jazz has since been dethroned by modern styles of music like rock, pop and hip hop, jazz still serves as a vast source of inspiration for contemporary artists.

Leslie Grace’s new song “Conga,” in partnership with Bacardi, reimagines the 1985 classic featuring vocals first performed by Gloria Estefan. This updated version is produced by Boi-1da, who lends his signature sound to the track with a retooled horn section and modern drum cadences. On his verse, the Grammy-nominated Philly rapper Meek Mill comes out swinging with his trademark animated vocals while flexing his love of luxury and leisure. Grace sings about her ideal party in the tropics, referencing dancing the conga and sipping Bacardi mojitos.

Lyrics:
It ain't no secret she's runnin' out of reasons
To keep that save-the-date in the spring
This ain't no bachelorette
Hang with the girls
And get crazy as New Orleans

She's testing uncharted waters
She won't just go with the flow
She's thinkin' maybe she oughta quit playin' a fool
For a two-timin' Romeo

She's got a ring on her hand
And a heart of gold
She's got a guy that won't treat her right
And it's gettin' old
She's caught between a little rock
And a pawn shop store
She's got a ring on her hand
And her foot out the door

He thinks his money and pourin' it on like honey
Will do the trick every time
He's good at rockin' that silver tongue talkin'
But he ain't no good at walkin' the line
She's the one walkin' tonight

She's got a ring on her hand
And a heart of gold
She's got a guy that won't treat her right
And it's gettin' old
She's caught between a little rock
And a pawn shop store
She's got a ring on her hand
And her foot out the door

She's testing uncharted waters
She won't just go with the flow
She's here tonight 'til last call
To cut loose and see where it goes

She's got a ring on her hand
And a heart of gold
She's got a guy that won't treat her right
And it's gettin' old
She's caught between a little rock
And a pawn shop store
She's got a ring on her hand
And her foot out the door
Foot out the door

Verse
If I may confess I’m not impressed
I pulled up to your crib and you ain’t even get undressed . Guess I could say I had some expectations there’s a 5 star meal in front of me and I can’t even taste it no.
What’s going on with my taste buds I don’t want a bad girl Im starting to hate them. Yea, and I swear this shit ain’t fair you move like you don’t care if you leave when I’m asleep then I don’t want to wake up no

Hook
If I wake up tomorrow would you still be here ?
I don’t know…. If you feel the way I do if you leave I’m gon find you baby please go ahead and go.. it’s okay cause I already know what it is

Verse
I’ll travel the world just to find you if you lose your train of thought I’ll remind you everything we had in the past I could see time running out this hour glass
Let me take you to Brooklyn Show you what my hood like right now we in a crisis and I ain’t talking Hood Life all my haters tight cause they see me living that good life and I don’t need a house pet I’m looking for a real one! Pick a place on the map and I could take you there . Since you quick to react it’s time to take it there I excluded my side bitches to make it fair
Foggy niggas hate it when I make it clear I know shit get dangerous so I be aware . If they don’t make no payments you won’t see me there and I created boundaries to make some space . If my world starts crumbling down Ima be prepared
And she’s just like me she talks like me I ain’t even gon lie this shit spooky
Manipulation I can’t take it everything you do is to confuse me !

Hook
If I wake up tomorrow would you still be here ?
I don’t know…. If you feel the way I do if you leave I’m gon find you baby please go ahead and go.. it’s okay cause I already know what it is yea
