Shocking Blue - Venus - 04/04/1998 • TopPop Hotney 14 Visualizzazioni • 2 anni fa

Shocking Blue was a Dutch rock band formed in The Hague in 1967. They had a number of psychedelic rock hits throughout the counterculture movement during the 1960s and early 1970s, including "Send Me a Postcard", "Love Buzz", and "Venus," the last of which became their biggest hit and reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and many other countries during 1969 and 1970. The band sold 13.5 million records by 1973 but disbanded in 1974. The Shocking Blue were founded in 1967 by The Motions guitarist Robbie van Leeuwen. Other members of the group at this time were Fred de Wilde, Klaasje van der Wal (1 February 1949 – 12 February 2018) and Cor van der Beek (9 June 1949 – 2 April 1998). They had a minor hit in 1968 with "Lucy Brown is Back in Town". De Wilde left in 1968 after joining the Dutch army, and van Leeuwen was introduced to Mariska Veres, singing at that time with a club band. He persuaded her to take over the vocals, and the group recorded a worldwide hit with the song "Venus" which peaked at number three in the Netherlands in autumn 1969. The song was released in the United States and the United Kingdom at the end of the year and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970. It subsequently sold 350,000 copies in Germany and topped the U.S. chart for three weeks, the first song from the Netherlands to do so. It sold over one million copies there by January 1970 and received a gold record awarded by the Recording Industry Association of America. Global sales exceeded five million copiesMaria Elisabeth Ender, better known as Mariska Veres (1 October 1947 – 2 December 2006), was a Dutch singer who was best known as the lead singer of the rock group Shocking Blue. Described as being similar to a young Cher, she was known for her sultry voice, eccentric performances, and her striking appearance which featured kohl-rimmed eyes, high cheekbones, and long jet black hair, which was actually a wig. The group had many other hits before they split up in 1975. In 1979 a reunion attempt was made, but it lasted only two years. Shocking Blue was resurrected in a new line-up in 1993 with Mariska Veres, but without Robbie van Leeuwen. This formation continued until the death of Mariska Veres in December 2006. This performance was part of the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the AVRO in a Toppop tv special presented by Ad Visser in 1998.

LYRICS:

I got enemies at every side
It ain’t looking good, I ain’t gonna lie
Arrows flying, devil’s trying
To make me think I’m going down this time
You might think that I’d be afraid
Running scared with a shaken faith
But the God I know says it ain’t over
The God I know is gonna make a way

Yea, though I walk through the valley
I will have

No fear, no fear
The mighty power of Jesus
Is fighting for me here
No fear, no fear
The light of the world
Makes the darkness disappear
No fear
Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life
Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life

No fear when I’m walking through the fire
‘Cause I know who’s walking me through
No fear when the floodwaters rise
If I got my eyes on you

No fear, no fear
The mighty power of Jesus
Is fighting for me here
No fear, no fear
The light of the world
Makes the darkness disappear
No fear
Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life
Not over my life, not over my life, not over my life

Not over my family, not over my future
Not over my life, God’s over my life
Not over my battles, not over my struggles
Not over my life, God’s over my life

Yea, though I walk through the valley
I will have

(Last time around, I came to f*** the streets up)

(Try to tell these n****s, get the money fuck being tough)
(Ridin round the hood, fully loaded, like a Brinks truck)
(All these n****s aint tied in, they wanna be us)

Last time around, I came to f*** the streets up
Try to tell these n****s, get the money fuck being tough
Ridin round the hood, fully loaded, like a Brinks truck
Gave these n****s a headstart still cant keep up
Penthouse, top floor, its time to kick my feet up
It aint a ten in sight, these n**** cant be up
I’m the type to go and spend my last onna re-up
These n****s aint tied in, they wanna be us

Fourth quarter pressure in the trap, like its crunch time
I aint leaving out this b**** unless its lunch time
I aint leaving out this b**** unless its time to eat
She came back with no money, told her beat her feet
All blues on me, like my money neat
Name ??? up on my side, go and ask the streets
No surgery, but to tell the truth, it came from me
I aint runnin off, I get them thangs for cheap

Get em off my name
Move 500, finna drop another chain
Bro with me everyday, he on the same thang
N****s doin 5 racks, look how the game changed
That s*** f***ed up
Signed a deal, whole city think I lucked up
Bands still sitting in my account, I ain't touch a buck
In the trap all day, n**** I been up

I ain't never gotta touch a dollar of that rap money
Bank account full, still trynna hide the trap money
Im the plug best friend so they still comin
Bro out of Terrance trynna wrap a hunnid
Get my n**** outta rap, let em get the money
Everybody having pape, f*** a crash dummy
Havin big boy pay, duffle bag money

Last time around, I came to f*** the streets up
Try to tell these n****s, get the money fuck being tough
Ridin round the hood, fully loaded, like a Brinks truck
Gave these n****s a headstart still cant keep up
Penthouse, top floor, its time to kick my feet up
It aint a ten in sight, these n**** cant be up
I’m the type to go and spend my last on the re-up
These n****s aint tied in, they wanna be us

(These n****s aint tied in)
(All these n****s standing round in these sections, they just wanna be with us)
(They need to stop it)
(Go get a plug)

(Go drive through one of them mountains)

LYRICS

Everything is just so loud

Lost in the noise and I can’t turn it off
The chaos spreads and it’s getting louder
I run to escape but it’s never enough
It keeps chasing me and it’s erasing me again

In my head but I don’t know
Light it up and watch it go
I shut it out but it all comes back again

Everyday it takes control
Even worse when I’m alone
Can’t turn it off cause it just gets louder

So turn it off
Cause I’m losing my mind
Are the voices and these noises
All I can find

Is it real
Can I keep up the fight
When the static pushes back
And there’s nowhere to hide

(Now I’m) screaming over and over again
I just can’t stop the overstimulation
Time runs out before it ever begins
And the peace becomes a prison in the end

In my head but I don’t know
Light it up and watch it go
I shut it out but it all comes back again

Everyday it takes control
Even worse when I’m alone
Can’t turn it off cause it just gets louder

So turn it off
Cause I’m losing my mind
Are the voices and these noises

All I can find

Is it real
Can I keep up the fight
When the static pushes back
And there’s nowhere to hide

Giving up, giving in
There’s nowhere to go
Nothing helps, nothing else
Just leave me alone

So turn it off
Cause I’m losing my mind
When the static pushes back
And there’s nowhere to hide

Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh
It pulls me apart
And I can’t shut it out
The silence turns to violence in the middle of nowhere
Fading to black
Is it all over now?
Why is everything so loud?

So turn it off
Cause I’m losing my mind
Are the voices and these noises
All I can find

Is it real
Can I keep up the fight
When the static pushes back
And there’s nowhere to hide

Giving up, giving in
There’s nowhere to go
Nothing helps, nothing else
Just leave me alone

So turn it off
Cause I’m losing my mind
When the static pushes back
And there’s nowhere to hide

Lyrics:
Another day,
Waking up, and I got you next to me
So, what you say?
You and I, we got time,
But none to waste

Let’s run away
Right into the arms of destiny
What you say?
You come and lay your body next to me

You tell me you’re all in
I tell you I’m fallin’
Together we just drop
You’re more than amazing
Your fire keeps blazin’
Yeah, mami, mami, too hot

Baby, you’re the life of my party
Can’t wait to get my hands on your body
Want you all night till the morning
It’s just you and me together

Life of my party
You know if you want me, you got me
And when I get my hands on your body
We can make it last forever

I’ll never leave,
Never leave your side
If that’s okay
‘Cause everything,
Everything I want,
Is in your space

So, follow me
Right into the arms of destiny
What you say?
You come and lay your body next to me

You tell me you’re all in
I tell you I’m fallin’
Together we just drop
You’re more than amazing
Your fire keeps blazin’
Yeah, mami, mami, too hot

Baby, you’re the life of my party
Can’t wait to get my hands on your body
Want you all night till the morning
It’s just you and me together

Life of my party
You know if you want me, you got me
And when I get my hands on your body
We can make it last forever

Let me know if this works perfectly for you or if you want more changes!

Intro:
I’m a an alien

1st Verse:
Stress, I’m lost in my skin
I feel like broken art so I just tat my sins
I can’t think straight man I feel so displaced
It’s like I’m coming in last getting lapped in the rat race damn
who is this man
my shadows a shape that I don’t seem to understand Hiding from the sun I’d rather lurk in the dark
Cause I’m a prisoner to everything I hold in my heart pain

Chorus:
I’m an alien
I feel the change
There’s something wrong I can’t explain
I’m an alien
I’m out of place
Alien

2nd Verse:
Time, it goes by so fast
Never could seem to find the right questions to ask Always looking for a purpose and I’m out of frame Another blurry lucid dream nothings ever the same damn
come on bring me back to earth
I’m breathing foreign air just to show my worth
Will I ever adapt or am I falling behind
Just another lost soul to join the fourth kind
Fuck it

Chorus:
I’m an alien
I feel the change
There’s something wrong I can’t explain
I’m an alien
I’m out of place
Alien alien

Bridge:
Can I win this war inside me I don’t want a fall apart
Chorus:
I’m an alien
I feel the change
There’s something wrong I can’t explain
I’m an alien
I’m out of place
Alien alien

Post Chorus:
Stress, I’m lost in my skin
I feel like broken art so I just tat my sins
I can’t think straight man I feel so displaced
It’s like I’m coming in last getting lapped in the rat race
damn
who is this man
my shadows a shape that I don’t seem to understand Hiding from the sun I’d rather lurk in the dark

Lyrics:
I remember that long cold night
How dark it was
Heart broke blinds closed
Didn’t even wanna see the sun

Like a refugee with nowhere to run
Lies in my mind held me hostage like a loaded gun
Tellin me I had no one

God I was too prideful to pick up that phone
Three a.m. I knew I needed help
But man I didn’t want anyone else to know
I was losing it

Somewhere between the deepest hell
And lowest low
I heard a voice from overhead
Sayin’ “son, don’t you dare let go”

I looked up
I looked up
From the bottom and I saw You
It was all You
I looked up
I looked up
From the bottom and I saw You
It was all You

I was at my lowest that night on August sixth
Trying to wrestle with all the pain and hell
I was dealing with
Punching holes, throwing blows, pitching fits
Trying not to drown

Wasn’t feeling like I was good enough
Knew I just couldn’t ever keep this up
Started sinking underneath from all this endless over-thinking

How could I forget, I can’t forget spending forty days in the wilderness
Feeling like I messed up too bad
So bad I’d never get out of it
Ain’t it funny how heaven comes in the least expected ways
My roommate in rehab looked over at me
Said it’s gonna be okay then

Sunday morning I just kept
Circling the Church
My heart was beating out of my chest
Couldn’t make a sound or even say a word

Tried to pick up my phone
Call my wife and tell her how I feel
But my hands were heavy as two stones
Ten and two, stuck on the steering wheel

How do you worship when your soul ain’t got a song to sing
It’s hard to remember when your heart forgets the melody, Jesus
When all I had was Your name on my lips
That’s when I sent an SOS to heaven
And heaven broke in to come and rescue me

Sometimes I gotta look back at the man I was
To remember just how far You brought me, how far I’ve come, all those little victories won
I’m so glad You always see the best in me
You always knew the man that I could be
From the moment I got down on my knees
