7 Reasons Cliff Burton F***ing ROCKS (+Bass Lesson Tips) Hotney 5 意见 • 4 年前

How did Cliff Burton become a metal bass hero? Here’s my take on Metallica’s legendary former bassist, plus tips to level up your own playing.

Sheet music + bass tab for all the Cliff riffs I played - https://www.noteflight.com/sco....res/view/a396c614f3a

What really freaked me out when I first heard Cliff was when he’d shred his bass like a lead guitar - so first we’ll break down part of his solo on “Orion”. I’ll show you 3 guitarist-style tricks Cliff uses to make that solo shred hard.

Then we’ll talk influences, metal legends like Steve Harris, Geezer Butler, and Lemmy Kilmister had a big impact on Cliff, and you can see that influence directly in the bass line examples we’ll check out.

Cliff was also majorly influenced by listening to Johann Sebastian Bach and other baroque composers. I’ll break down exactly how that influence showed up in his playing - and how it didn’t. (nobody ever talks about this!)

As any fan knows, Cliff wrote super creative bass lines that transcending the plodding root note style of other rock and metal bands. We’ll look at his line on “Jump In The Fire,” compared to Rob McGovney’s original bass line, to see this in action.

Cliff’s bass tone kept evolving through the three Metallica albums he played on - I’ll show you how Cliff’s tone compared to other metal bassists of the same era by playing back to back isolated bass lines from Steve Harris, Tom Araya, David Ellefson, and Frank Bello. (these are so cool to hear)

How do you keep up with James Hetfield’s legendary downpicking speed? Cliff had a trick up his sleeve that made it doable - you’ll probably be surprised how simple it is, and how well it works in a full band mix.

Cliff Burton played with Metallica from 1983 to 1986 - just under three years - and we’re still feeling the impact of his legacy over 30 years later.

His life ended abruptly on September 27, 1986 in a tragic tour bus accident.
It was a huge loss to his family, friends, and fans.

But the music lives on, and I have a feeling we’ll be talking about Cliff for many more years. So thanks Cliff, we love you, and rest in peace!

#blink182 #Janine Lindemulder

I cite my sources and they may differ than other people's accounts, so I don't guarantee the actual accuracy of my videos.

To some she’s best known as the nurse on the cover of Blink 182’s third album Enema of the State, to others she was already known as an adult film actress. But whatever happened to the woman on the front cover of blink 182’s 3rd record. That’s what we’re going to explore in today’s video.

Janine Lindemulder was the woman who appeared as the nurse on Blink 182’s third album. Prior to appearing on the album in college she was a softball player who even got a scholar ship offer, but ended up answering a modelling ad which eventually led her to posing in adult men’s magazine penthouse in 1987 where she was named pet of the month and would appear in the magazine several more times during her career. It would eventually lead to her enering the adult film industry in the early 90’s becoming well established in the industry. She would marry her first husband in 1988 a construction worker who she would end up having a son with. They would subsequently divorce in 1996. The following year she would appear in howard stern’s movie private parts playing the camp counsellor’s wife. In 1998 she would be filmed having sex with motley crue frontman vince neil. It would make loudersound’s list of worst rockstar sex tapes at the number 2 spot. In 1999 she would appearing on the front cover of blink 182’s third record enema of the state and in the video for what’s my again.

When it came to the artwork for the album the band always envisioned having a nurse on the front cover. IT was just a matter of picking the best woman to be on the album sleeve. The band’s record label MCA gave the trio a stack of photos of potential cover models to look through. THe women in the stack of photos were mostly from playboy and vivid entertainment. The band decided on adult actress janine lindamulder, but unbeknownst to the members they didn’t know she worked in the adult film industry. Linamulder would appear on the cover in a nurses outfit putting on a glove with the band members semi nude in the back of the cover. Lindamulder would also appear in the videos for what’s my age again and man overboard.

The photographer for the album David Goldman, would talk to Huffington Post where he admitted he wasn’t familiar with the band before getting the job going on to say. "Up until the very last minute, the album was going to be called Turn Your Head and Cough," And that's why I came up with the idea of the glove. Obviously an enema is not really a glove type of thing. I thought it was a good visual."

There would be three different versions of the cover art. The first pressing of the album showed Lindemulder wearing a nurse’s hat with a red cross and the band’s name spelled with a capital B in the band’s logo. The second pressing of the artwork still had the red cross but had a lower case B in the band’s name as the band preferred that and finally the third pressing had the red cross removed.

In 2013 a fan posted on the group’s subreddit celebrating the anniversary of Enema of the State.
Band member Mark Hoppus dropped by the subreddit to share some info on the album’s artwork saying

“We were then contacted by the Red Cross that, as we are in no way a medical organization (which I would debate. one time I changed a band-aid), we should not have a red cross on our artwork. If we continued using the red cross logo, we would be in violation of the Geneva Convention. (for real).

“Thus, the third iteration of the artwork: no red cross, lower case b blink-182.”

The band according to the American Red Cross was in violation of section 55 of the 1949 geneva convention that states no one other organization, public or private can use the red cross symbol other than the red cross or red crescent

It was shortly after appearing on enema of the state’s cover that she announced her retirement from the industry opting to focus on raising her son and wanting to become a school teacher. In 2002 she would end up marrying west coast choppers founder Jesse James with whom she had a very tumultuous relationship with that was full of c

Queens-based Kool G Rap & DJ Polo left one of the most impressive rap discographies in their wake. Though Kool G Rap's growth as an MC from their first single in 1986 to their final album in 1992 was considerable, the duo started off running and never looked back. The pair never had the large profile enjoyed by others in Marley Marl's extended family (including Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, and Roxanne Shanté), but aftershocks continue to be felt throughout the East Coast, from the Notorious B.I.G. to Nas to Wu-Tang Clan to the underground scene.

When their first single, 1986's "I'm Fly"/"It's a Demo," was released on Cold Chillin', G Rap was already a formidable MC who could boast with the best of them. However, it would be narratives that he would become most known for, in addition to some of the raunchiest rhymes hip-hop has ever known. Throughout the years, Marley Marl, Large Professor, and Sir Jinx provided valuable production assistance. The duo released the formative "I'm Fly"/"It's a Demo" in 1986, but G Rap (born Nathaniel Wilson) truly broke out on the Juice Crew's "The Symphony," a group cut of great legend produced by Marley Marl that also included turns from Masta Ace, Craig G., and Big Daddy Kane. After a good deal of anticipation was built for the first Kool G Rap & DJ Polo album, Road to the Riches saw the light of day in 1989. Produced by Marl and released on his Cold Chillin' label, the album included a handful of timeless moments while alluding to greater potential. That potential was fulfilled with the following year's Wanted: Dead or Alive. Marley Marl remained partly responsible for the duo's sound, while Main Source's Large Professor and Eric B. also pitched in with production work. On this album, G Rap became an MC of top caliber; he expanded his range as a magnificent storyteller on tracks like "Streets of New York" (a number three rap single) and "Wanted: Dead or Alive." Released in 1992, Live and Let Die landed the duo in a bit of hot water; its cover, depicting the duo feeding meat to rabid dogs in front of two restrained white men, gained a fair amount of attention in the press. The controversy played a role in shooting the album up to the Top 20 of the R&B/hip-hop albums chart, but the attention unfortunately waned. Just as accomplished as Wanted: Dead or Alive (if not more so), the album featured the sympathetic handiwork of Sir Jinx and Trakmasterz and helped bring G Rap's increasingly profane and vivid tales to extreme levels.

G Rap and Polo went their separate ways shortly after that. G Rap put out three albums between the mid-'90s and early '00s, while Polo cut a single with Ice-T and porn star Ron Jeremy. Landspeed kept the duo's legacy alive through a low-key reissue campaign; in 2000 and 2001, separate releases combined the first two albums and anthologized their entire career together.

Thug Life: Volume 1 was the first release by the group Thug Life, started by rapper Tupac Shakur, and was released on September 26, 1994. The album was originally released by Shakur's label Out Da Gutta Records. Due to heavy criticism on gangsta rap at the time, the original version of the album was scrapped and re-recorded with many of the original songs being cut. It has been said that 2Pac created two other versions of this album, with many of the songs still remaining unreleased. The group featured Big Syke, Macadoshis, Mopreme, The Rated R and Tupac Shakur. Among the notable tracks on the album are "Bury Me a G","Cradle to the Grave", "Pour Out a Little Liquor", "How Long Will They Mourn Me?" and "Str8 Ballin". In 1996 Big Syke and Shakur planned to create Thug Life: Vol. 2 - Out On Bail which would have been released on Makaveli Records, but the latter's murder in Las Vegas prevented this from becoming a reality[1]. Although the album was originally released on Shakur's label Out Da Gutta, Amaru Entertainment, the label owned by the mother of Tupac Shakur, has since gained the rights to it. Thug Life: Volume 1 was certified Gold

Pour out a little liquor
Pour out a little liquor
What's that you drinkin on?

Drinkin on gin, smokin on blunts and it's on
Reminisce about my niggaz, that's dead and gone
And now they buried, sometimes my eyes still get blurry
Cause I'm losin all my homies and I worry
I got my back against a brick wall, trapped in a circle
Boxin with them suckers til my knuckles turn purple
Mama told me, "Son there'll be days like this"
Don't wanna think so -- I hit the drink and stay blitzed
We had plans of bein big time G's
Rolling in marked cars, movin them keys
And now I roll up the window, blaze up some indo
Get to' down for my niggaz in the pen, yo
Your son's gettin big and strong
and I'd love'm like one of my own, til you come home and
the years sure fly with the quickness
You do the time, and I'll keep handlin yo' business
That's the way it's supposed to be
Homie, if it was me, you'd do the shit for me
Homie, I can remember scrapin back to back
Throwin dogs on them suckers runnin up on this young hog
I hope my words can paint a perfect picture
And let ya know how much a nigga miss ya

Lyrics:
I took an arrow to the heart
I never kissed a mouth that tastes like yours
Strawberries and then something more
Oh yeah I want it all
Lipstick on my guitar
Fill up the engine we can drive real far
Go dancing underneath the stars
Oh yeah I want it all

You got me feeling like

I wanna be that guy
I wanna kiss your eyes
I wanna drink that smile
I wanna feel like I
Like my souls on fire
I wanna stay up all day and all night
Yeah you got me feeling like

Ooh, I love it when you do it like that
And when you’re close up
Give me the shivers
Oh baby you wanna dance ‘til the sunlight cracks
And when they say the party’s over then we’ll bring it right back
And we’ll say
Ooh, I love it when you do it like that
And when you’re close up
Give me the shivers
Oh baby you wanna dance ‘til the sunlight cracks
And when they say the party’s over then we’ll bring it right back
Into the car
On the backseat in the moonlit dark
Wrap me up between your legs and arms
Oh I can’t get enough
You know you could tear me apart
Put me back together and break my heart
I never thought that I could love this hard
Oh I can’t get enough

You got me feeling like

I wanna be that guy
I wanna kiss your eyes
I wanna drink that smile
I wanna feel like I
Like my souls on fire
I wanna stay up all day and all night
Yeah you got me feeling like

Ooh, I love it when you do it like that
And when you’re close up
Give me the shivers
Oh baby you wanna dance ‘til the sunlight cracks
And when they say the party’s over then we’ll bring it right back
And we’ll say ooh, I love it when you do it like that
And when you’re close up
Give me the shivers
Oh baby you wanna dance ‘til the sunlight cracks
And when they say the party’s over then we’ll bring it right back

Baby you burn so hot
You make me shiver with the fire you got
This thing we started I don’t want it to stop, you know you make me shiver
Yeah you got me singing like

Ooh, I love it when you do it like that
And when you’re close up
Give me the shivers
Oh baby you wanna dance ‘til the sunlight cracks
And when they say the party’s over then we’ll bring it right back

About Bad Boy Entertainment:

In 1993, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, also known as Diddy, launched Bad Boy Records. Nobody could have
imagined the impact the label would have on pop culture. As a subsidiary of the larger Bad Boy
Entertainment, the label became best known for its signature sound of streetwise hip-hop soul and the
ghetto fabulousness that radiated like precious jewels from its very name. Bad Boy was designed for
those who aspired higher, but also wanted to party until the break of dawn. Puffy had seen life from
both sides of the class divide and, with his groove-heavy music, worked hard to merge the two. There is
no better visual embodiment of this merger than the groundbreaking videos that were in heavy rotation
on BET and MTV and now on YouTube.

The Bad Boy Entertainment channel is the official YouTube home of iconic music videos from Puff
Daddy, Craig Mack, Faith Evans, 112, Total, Mase, Yung Joc, Cassie, Danity Kane, and the rest of the Bad
Boy Family, and your destination for some of the biggest 90s and 00s hip-hop hits of all time like Craig
Mack’s “Flava In Your Ear (Remix)”, the Notorious B.I.G. tribute “I’ll Be Missing You” by Puff Daddy feat.
