Did 50 CENT Kill JA RULE'S Rap Career? 3 Reasons His Growth Was Stunted! Hotney 3 Streams • 3 years ago

Ja Rule musically was on top of the world in the early 2000s. He had a unique style where he would harmonize on his songs while rapping just as well that was the formula for hit making. Nowadays that formula is oversaturated in the rap game, but in Ja's era, he was one of the first to make that style popular and he blew up behind it. But his reign on top was cut short a lot due to the beef he had with 50 Cent. The consensus is that Ja Rule lost that beef musically and to make matters worse, 50 cent took off with his formula, while he was clowned over the years and never recovered. Here are 3 reasons Jar Rule's Growth was Stunted. Did 50 Cent Kill Ja Rule's rap career? Stunted Growth Music

Loon's Growth as an artist was Stunted. Before that he dropped one of the best albums of 2003 and looked to have a bright future in the rap game. As a rapper, he was the perfect fit for Bad Boy records, and the opportunity was there for him to at least have put out more than one album with the label. For whatever reason, he decided to leave Diddy and start his own music journey and things all changed. He went down a path that took 9 years of his life behind bars, that led him to his religion that saw him quit music altogether. He's still a respected artist I'm sure, and his journey is still a great one. The best Forgotten Gem Of The Early 2000s LOON! What Happened? Why was Loon's Growth Stunted?

WHO Is Mike Jones? And WHY Did He Fall Off?
WHO Is Mike Jones? And WHY Did He Fall Off? Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

Who is Mike Jones? In the early 2000s around 2005, he was on the top of the rap game. His first album went platinum in 2 months and ended up going double platinum. But his reign on top was short to say the least. His next official album didn't come out until years later and by that time his buzz had faded. After label issues, music from Mike Jones got even more rare as another album wouldn't release from him since 2009. In today's feature I'll tell you who Mike Jones was as an artist, and where his story took him.

GOAT Detroit Rapper OBIE TRICE Disappeared After 2 Classic Albums! What Happened?
GOAT Detroit Rapper OBIE TRICE Disappeared After 2 Classic Albums! What Happened? Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

Obie Trice had the flame when he came out in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, his label had one of the hottest rappers of all time in 50 Cent dropping in the same year. 50 wouldn't let up on the industry and Obie was one of the rappers that were caught with a career stray. He dropped his first classic the same year as 50 and still went platinum. To me that was a classic hip hop album. He dropped his second straight classic, but by that time his infrastructure was crumbling. He would have label issues with Shady before starting his own label. What else happened that Stunted his Growth?

Why Did The Music Industry BLACKBALL Lauryn Hill? Stunted Growth
Why Did The Music Industry BLACKBALL Lauryn Hill? Stunted Growth Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

Entertainers are not only slaves to labels and investors, but also to fans and critics. Lauryn Hill just wanted to be FREE! from all that. To me, she is the G.O.A.T female hip hop artist of all time off ONE ALBUM! Simply off creativity down to carefully selecting the environment to create. She made songs with a point and perspective, unlike the carefully targeted, pointless music female artist in hip hop make today. No you'll never see her remixing WAP, but in no circumstance can any female artist out today make a song like Doo Wop or Ex-Factor NO GHOST WRITERS. Had the music industry and personal struggles not get in the way, she could've been a top 5 great artist of any genre. Respect to the queen Ms. Lauryn Hill. Here's why her Growth was Stunted.

Could LLOYD BANKS Have Been Top5 All Time Like Kanye Says? What Happened?
Could LLOYD BANKS Have Been Top5 All Time Like Kanye Says? What Happened? Hotney 4 Streams • 3 years ago

In the early 2000s Lloyd Banks along with Gunit was the best thing hip hop had ever seen. Kanye even called Banks top5 all time! 20 years later, Banks has only released 3 studio albums and many consider him somewhat of a let down. His label boss and former friend repeatedly called him lazy and unable to understand how the game was changing. In my opinion Banks did have the talent and opportunity to be everything people say he is, but fell a bit short of that. Here's why. Stunted Growth.

Beanie Sigel COULD'VE BEEN The G.O.A.T! What Happened? Stunted Growth
Beanie Sigel COULD'VE BEEN The G.O.A.T! What Happened? Stunted Growth Hotney 8 Streams • 3 years ago

In the late 90s, Beanie Sigel hit the scene and initially showed skills perfect for era. Hip Hop had transitioned to being more about story telling, bars and being authentic of the street talk. There wasn't a better guy for that than the Broad Street Bully. He had the look, the talent, respect in the streets and the vision to be a boss. His rise to the top of the game was swift, but lasted only about 6-7 years, which is good for an everyday artist, but for Beans a lot more was expected. He had his own label(State Property), clothing line that was dope, and he was backed by the biggest and some say greatest hip hop artist of all time and one of the greatest MCs ever, Jay-z. In my opinion Sigel had the wrong people around him that encourage him to remain in the streets and it led to him spending too much time away from the game in and out of prison.
When he returned, his label had been split in two and fans were starting to feel a way about both sides. This caused them to lose the momentum they had and Sigel fell behind his peers in a way because of it. He would also get shot and lose his voice, making his natural energy and grittyness on the mic fade. Fans weren't patient and Sigel also took a strange direction, dumming down his bars and attempting to ride the drill wave to fans surprise and disappointment. Since recently he's been trying to build himself back to what it was, but unfortuntely the game has completely changed and his style is simply not wanted BY THE MASSES. People like me still respect him as one of the greatest, and "Feel it in the air" is a top 5 hip hop song of all time. Salute to him, but here are 3 reasons his growth was stunted and he missed the target.

BG. Aka B Gizzle. Today’s feature is a guy that had one of the rawest deliveries ever heard on record period. To this day there hasn’t been another artist with his slowed down but always on beat flow that put him right at the top of a group that shaped my teenage years growing up in the late 90s, early 2000s. He Lil Wayne and Juvenile I thought could’ve formed the biggest 3 in hip hop of all time had some of the things we’ll talk about not happened. Since 2012 BG has been serving a 14 year prison sentence and upon hearing that news I couldn’t help but feel it was the end of what was a last straw at a promising career transitioning into the hip hop era of today. Before that BG was the clearest representation of Cash Money records and what made them so popular. In the late 90s and early 2000s, the gangster rap image was still very profitable if you could spin it and make it look a certain way. BG and cash money fortunate and unfortunately didn’t need to do that. By every account the image was real and mainly because of who BG was at such an early age. Could AZ Have Been A Household Name Like NAS? Stunted Growth Music Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

The most underrated rapper of all time. Az has heard that more than a few times. He never let that get to him though, as he preaches “quiet money is the best money” In 1995 the name AZ wasn’t so quiet. It’s the year he dropped a classic album on his first try and had the entire east coast hailing him as next to blow from the New York area. It was called “Doe or Die”, which if you haven’t heard is truly one of the best hip hop/rap albums you’ll ever hear. Fast forward to 2021 and when the name AZ is mentioned in more than enough circles, a standout track can’t be recalled. A standout moment feels non existent. Some may even say “who” is he like a copy of Jay z or something? As crazy as it sounds some in 1995 saw AZ actually becoming the next great Brooklyn rapper over Jay-z. Of course in 1996 history rewrote itself. He’s had a gentleman of a rap career, but it still feels he could’ve done better. Here are a few reasons that didn’t happen. Why didn’t AZ become a household name like NAS? Stunted Growth Music

The Real Reason DAME DASH'S Growth Was Stunted! Could've been Diddy!
The Real Reason DAME DASH'S Growth Was Stunted! Could've been Diddy! Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

Dame Dash's influence on hip hop should not go unnoticed. He's partly responsible for the success of countless artist, namely #jayz and other successful business ventures in and out the industry in the early 2000s. After coming up together with Jay-z as his artist, he began losing control as Jay got bigger. Eventually Jay-z got to a level where to him Dame was more of a risk than value. The way he talked to people in the industry rubbed many the wrong way and it caused he and Jay to grow distant. That led to a split between them and bad blood, especially expressed from Dash, who always felt slighted by how it all went down. Either way, Dame would be quietly blackballed in the industry and his potential as a music mogul was Stunted. What else Stunted Dame Dash's Growth? OUT NOW 🔥 🎤 🎼 🔥 🎥 Stunted Growth Music

Should've Been The G.O.A.T Female Rapper! What Stunted FOXY BROWN'S Growth?
Should've Been The G.O.A.T Female Rapper! What Stunted FOXY BROWN'S Growth? Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

The mid 90s. One of the golden eras of hip hop music, and let the right person tell it, it was THE brightest age of the genre. It was also heavily dominated by men, who claimed at least 15 of the top 20 spots. The other 5 ladies that donned most list were the cream of the crop, and you could imagine the type of work it took to get there. Usually missing from a lot of list is Foxy Brown, and it’s a travesty this is so. Personally Foxy Brown is my all time favorite female rapper with her work on the Firm alone solidifies that for me. Her voice always stood out and ranged from the gangsterest tone on record or freestyle to the sweetest most humble personality. One of only 3 females that could rhyme in a room full of men and shut down the show. Let’s not talk about affirmative action. Her debut album, dropped 7 days after lil Kim, who had the highest charting album for a female not named Lauryn Hill for a week. The debut went platinum, along with her second studio project that debuted #1 on billboard and also eventually went platinum. 2 platinum albums in and just 22 years old she was poised to possibly be one of the best rappers of her generation. Today she should be heralded as at least top 2, but like hinted at earlier, she seems to have been forgotten by her standards and here are 3 reasons why that is. OUT NOW!!🎥 🎤 🎼 🔥 YouTube :stuntedgrowthmusic #foxybrown

The Diplomat's Career Was FUN, FLASHY And A DISAPPOINTMENT! What Stunted Their Growth? Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

Camron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freaky Zeaky. The Diplomats (also known as Dipset) Formed in 1997
The diplomats. One of Hip hop most well known and well respected groups of all time. If there were any rap group that capitalized early in their careers and made somewhat of the most of their influence it was dipset. Together they're cultural icons that were in control of shaping the direction of hip hop at one point in the early 2000s. Their mixtapes and full length projects, highlighted by the series “Diplomatic Immunity” 1 and 2 led their ascendance and received high praise at the peak of their run, but became a quick climax, that in just a few years was realized it would be peak of where together they could take their unique sound. Separately they all had success, and also a chance at being bigger than they eventually became. They made magic as a collective, and are still relatively relevant today, but it always feels when their name is brought up they didn’t quite hit the mark. The problem that led to Dipset actually falling short by all accounts was actually just that. Everything not effectively coming together to at least seal the lid on a great career. Just one that has been stunted at crucial points, and here are 3 of the biggest reasons I think this happened. Legends in the game, yet under delivered in the grand scheme.

Was FIELD MOB Blackballed By LUDACRIS? Here's Why Their Growth Was Stunted
Was FIELD MOB Blackballed By LUDACRIS? Here's Why Their Growth Was Stunted Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

One of the most difficult realities that’s hard to accept as a good artist is not being properly compensated for their creation. Whether monetarily, or in the form of praise that leads to accolades. Today’s feature knows that all too well. As far as being good artist, Shawn J and Smoke of Field Mob were more than that. The Grammy nominated group were on fire in the early 2000s with their creative, witty, fun, but real way of displaying their music, known for touching on real topics like slavery and inequality. They had songs about love like every other male artist, but theirs gave a different and interesting perspective, like how does the woman feel about you out all night and not paying attention to her after the relationship get stale and comfortable. Or how does your lady feel having to hear the people whisper around her about all the negative things connected to your name. They were aware of how country people were looked at and made fun of for sounding a certain way, or eating this or that off animals considered unclean, or the way they dressed and danced. They took that and made themselves the mascot for it, proud of the field they came from and showed it. Two talented individuals from a small town that made classic records in their era, just couldn’t survive the hurdles they had to get over, and by 2006 they were gone as we knew them when they first began to create their buzz in 99-00. It’s not often you see a rap group from the south, go to a New York based record label and put out a single and it become a top 20 billboard hit, an album that goes gold and become their biggest album to date, and be nominated for one of the biggest awards you can get as an entertainer. A Grammy. What is often is we see too many rappers or rap groups complain about being unfairly compensated for their work from a label, that leads two you never hearing for those artist again. It’s a travesty we didn’t get more field mob in the early 2000s, and even today, where their lyrical prowess and melodic sound could still be relevant today had Ludacris not apparently Blackball them. Should AB SOUL Be A Superstar In Rap By Now? What Happened? Stunted Growth Music
Should AB SOUL Be A Superstar In Rap By Now? What Happened? Stunted Growth Music Hotney 5 Streams • 3 years ago

So there’s a hip hop label called TDE, founded in 2004, Carson California that became one of the biggest independent labels in hip hop throughout the 2010s. It’s sold over 10 million records just in the US overall, and has been the home to some of the brightest rap stars of that era. Behind acts like Schoolboy Q, jay Rock, SZA and of course Kendrick Lamar, TDE has been known throughout that span as a place where real hip hop and music making in general still cares about quality and all artist being true to themselves in presenting art in the form of words and ideas. In rap solely, TDE has been known to have some of the best words men, that at one point controlled the standard for the dying art of lyricism. Ab Soul is an artist signed to the label, and many from fans and peers alike believe he’s the best lyricist of the collective and rightfully so. He rapped almost flawlessly, and he looked the part. Around 2013, TDE couldn’t have had a bigger buzz. Kendrick Lamar was the hottest young name in hip hop, Schoolboy Q was gearing to go on his run with back to back grammy nominated albums, as well as Jay Rock picking up grammy nominations for his work on Kendrick’s Debut. In the midst of all that, there was Ab Soul. Behind a wall in everyone’s mind outside his core fans waiting to do something substantial in the game. Ab Soul is respected in hip hop, and in many parts of the world, yet it still feels as though something is missing. Like at some point effort to capitalize on his potential fell short, and today he’s in a space his ceiling couldn’t be lower. 3 reasons Ab Soul Growth was Stunted, when he should’ve easily been a superstar.

Did B.O.B's Music Become Too WOKE For The Industry? Stunted Growth Music
Did B.O.B's Music Become Too WOKE For The Industry? Stunted Growth Music Hotney 7 Streams • 3 years ago

Today’s feature has to be the most interestingly confusing artist I’ve covered to date, in that he once had the world at his feet with a lane only he could ride in being of his musical talent and background, mixed with perfect timing and success, and then leaned over and flicked it all away, deciding to walk a lonely path of contradicting sounds, personality and thoughts that essentially buried him alive. Not that he can’t be heard, because he still puts out music consistently today and some of it isn’t bad at all. The song “Slizzy Sity” released a year ago is some of his best, recent work, that showcases a bit of what the world fell in love with when it comes to B.O.B. I remember it had to have been maybe 2010, BoB had a show at the university of Missouri with J Cole on probably some college tour, and I got to watch him perform as the featured act. Going there to see J.Cole I knew nothing much about BoB besides the radio songs he had out at that point that pierced your ears all throughout a car ride and made it hard not to sing alone with. But I always chalked it up as just another radio artist, built to have timely success and not much else. Until I saw him perform. My respect grew tons for him, because although J Cole was the hottest traditional rapper on the rise and his set was great, he wasn’t close to the potential I saw that night in BoB. He was creating a lane in hip hop so different, but also exactly what other artist wanted to create but just couldn’t without the musical background he had, and not even he noticed. He couldn’t have. Had he, there’s no way you he’d decide to go away from that, all to be a podium screamer, that now goes triple sandwich bag in recent album sales. Was he too Woke? Did the #flatearth theory cancel him? B.O.B Stunted Growth!

CHAMILLIONAIRE Choose Millions In Investments Over A Rap Career! What Happened? Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

Today’s feature has been at the top of the rap game behind his hit song “Ridin” and debut album that topped the billboard charts for multiple weeks and even won a grammy award for best rap performance. With 3.2 million sold it became one of the best selling records of 2006. It had the best rap video on mtv, bet, and rolling stone named it a top 100 songs of 2006. As far as ringtones, Chamillionare dominated that field as well selling 3.2 million ringtones and being certified platinum 3x. It sold so much he was certified by the RIAA as the first multi-platinum Mastertone artist in history. Behind the success of the song his first album released and went platinum. At the time the south was running the game, in particular Texas, who already saw the success of Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Slim Thug and others. Chamillionare was supposed to be right down that line and keep the state relevant, but out of nowhere, he was just gone. Not gone from the world, but from hip hop. Not before releasing a follow up album in 2007 that went gold and just shy of platinum status, without a hit featured track like his previous album. He went on to become one of the more successful investors of a music background and reportedly made millions more than he ever could’ve made had he stay the rap path. He made so much investments and money that he literally never put out another album as Chamillionaire and doesn’t seem to have interest in doing so. It’s bitter sweet for me to hear that because Chamillionare was a favorite artist of mine and I just know he was up next to sit a top the hip hop mountain. Today’s feature is the epitome of timing is everything and what happens when things happen at the perfect time. One of those important times was December 20th 2012 when Trinidad James released a song that would change his life forever and introduce one of the more distinct hip hop songs of all time, and a pivotal song of the 2010s “All Gold Everything”. The song was so influential that Bruno mars reportedly paid him 150,000 just to use a line from the song. “Don’t believe me just watch” 150k. The song had so many quotables I’m sure he’s found a way to make money from them at the time and can still find ways to monetize those today. "Popped a Molly I’m sweatin woo". Easily a top five distinctive line of all time. Did 'SCHOOLBOY Q' Fall Off Musically? Stunted Growth Music Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

Schoolboy Q is an American rapper born in West Germany on an army base due to his father being in the US army. Because of his parents divorce his mother randomly selected a last name for him, which is the one he goes by today. After moving to Houston for a short stay, his family moved to South Central Los Angeles, where by 12 years old he was participating in gang activity. He stated he never really understood gang mindset at the time, but because his friends were doing it so did he. Those activities led to him doing jail time later on in life for home invasion to which he spent 6 months split between jail and house arrest. Him signing a record deal really came naturally and spur of the moment as he was still in between taking music seriously and the streets. He would record a TDE’s studio from time to time, but even though he began at 16 it wasn’t until 21 when he took rapping a little more serious. He met Jay Rock, Kendrick and Ab Soul whom he connected to most because of their love for weed smoking. Kendrick took to his personality and made him his hype man and things went up from there. He's a platinum, grammy nominated rapper that at some point fans began to ask what happened. Did Schoolboy Q "fall off" musically? Stunted Growth Music.

Did J-HOOD Fall Off After Dragging His D-Block Chain? What Happened? Stunted Growth Music
Did J-HOOD Fall Off After Dragging His D-Block Chain? What Happened? Stunted Growth Music Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

In rap music and in the music industry period it’s a fight to have your art not slip through the cracks of being seen with so many other artist at the same goal of exposure. Sometimes the ones that do slip through the cracks so to speak deserve it when they aren’t doing what they’re supposed to to elevate in said industry for whatever reason. But then every so often you have a really talented artist that the world can see has what it takes to go a long way with the music and can’t understand why things didn’t work out. Today’s feature I think was a bit of a by product of all those along with what we’ll elaborate on today. J-Hood in the early 2000s was known for being a rapper that had bars for days, especially for being as young as he was when he first linked up with the legendary LOX Jadakiss, Sheek Louch and Styles P. But then he left his affiliations with the LOX, dragged his D-Block chain and was essentially blackballed in the industry. What happened? How’d this promising rapper miss his window of rap stardom?

Hot when he started, was at the top of the game at one point, but nevertheless only lasted a short time until his flame crashed and he was never heard from again. Ron Browz jumped on a wave back in the late 2000s as a joke and became ultra popular for it. He was making club hit after club hit back then, even if the songs were some of the most annoying songs you ever heard. I’m of the belief D.O.A may have even been directed at Ron browz mainly, as he was the only one at the time overusing it to the point his vocal were distorted throughout the entire track, as he simply screamed whatever he thought black people liked. Ron Browz I’ll give it to him, was able to capture that feeling and turn it into hits that set his career off and took him from the guy that made the beat for the best diss song in rap history to an actual music artist, signed to one of the biggest labels in hip hop. Now he’s clinging on to ether to save his life. The irony. Did Jay-Z End RON BROWZ Career With D.O.A Stunted Growth Music

Was BIG SEAN Left Behind His Peers? Stunted Growth Music Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

Today’s feature is an artist I truly have enjoyed in the past and I would be remiss not to mention that. When the idea of doing a video about Big Sean came up, I thought long about what that would sound like, as part of me feels Sean had a very successful career considering you know how he got started in one of the most pure hip hop ways, rapping on the spot for a well known artist so well that he invites you to the studio and offers to sign you on the spot. That itself never happens anymore in the new social landscape, and he’s managed to have a pretty successful career thereafter. He’s put out 5 albums in the 2010s and they’ve all done well. 3 platinum and 2 going gold. For his rap class, the beginning of the 2010s, he was one of its leaders at some point and I remember he, Drake, Kendrick and J Cole all supposedly being the future of and rap as we once knew it, always compared to one another and often pressured to battle one another for the throne. Throughout the decade Drake and Kendrick have seemed to separate themselves, along with J Cole who isn’t that far behind as the cream of the crop from that era, and Big Sean just kinda seemed to have left the race. DAVE EAST Was Supposed To Be The NEXT NAS! What Happened? Stunted Growth Music
DAVE EAST Was Supposed To Be The NEXT NAS! What Happened? Stunted Growth Music Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

Dave East: Stunted Growth Music: In 2014 hip hop really wanted a guy like today’s feature. At the time hip hop was a melting pot of different style within the culture, that gave you a different fix no matter what you enjoyed and for different reasons they all were able to co exist and have success. You had west coast hip hop in YG, who topped the charts and was named by billboard as having the top rap album in the game that year. Run the Jewels repping for yesteryear hip hop, J Cole as one of the younger hip hop artist carrying the torch for rap as it was once known, then there was the Migos, braggadocios Southern hip hop guaranteed a hit on radio and in the clubs, Jeezy, Schoolboy Q, Kevin Gates, Big Krit, Future, Young thug…It was maybe the final year where you could find this sort of diversity in the genre and enjoyment no matter what you liked. An era Dave East should’ve flourished in. He was supposed to become the new era's Nas possibly, but that never happened. Still a decent rapper, but couldn't take it to the next level. Philly’s Most Wanted Were Supposed To Be The FIRST Clipse! Stunted Growth Music
Philly’s Most Wanted Were Supposed To Be The FIRST Clipse! Stunted Growth Music Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

Today’s feature were supposed to be a lot of things in the late 90s, early 2000s, but one opportunity they had before pretty much anyone else was to work on an entire album produced by the now world famous Neptune’s Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo before they became a household name and soon after washing their hands with the Philly Duo. Mr Man and Boo Bonic were so early in to the table that they are the ones who actually introduced Beanie Sigel to Dame Dash, Kareem Biggs and Jay-z himself. By the end Jay-z signed Beans, gave him his first major placement on his Vol 2 Hard Knock Life album on a song called Reservoir Dogs and the rest was history. Beanie Sigel blossomed into the hardest street rapper in the history of Philly rap, and had a successful run in the 2000s. Philly’s Most never got that Rocafella deal, signifying another move that just didn’t go their way. Over the course of the brief career, this would be the theme. Them always in the right place at the right time, but never securing the key that could unlock the door to rap success they were always right in front of. SISQO: The Forgotten Superstar of His Generation! Stunted Growth Music
SISQO: The Forgotten Superstar of His Generation! Stunted Growth Music Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

Today’s feature was one of the top performers of his generation. He was also much ahead of his time with his style and song writing capabilities. It’s one thing to create magic once, but to do it twice like Sisqo did with the group Dru Hill, then solo, becoming one of the top selling artist on his debut solo album, including two smash hit songs that made Sisqo a superstar in music in the early 2000s, one would expect nothing less than career dominance leading to all time great status would follow. Instead one more album in his prime that also went platinum, but that’s where the train stopped for the next 14 years. An entire generation of music life span before Sisqo released a third album and to no surprise it went in how ever many ears and out the other. Shocking to see this happen to an artist when I was growing up was on the same level entertainment wise as Chris Brown, Beyonce and even dare I say Michael Jackson. At least he attempted and had the potential to be, and to think he was just beginning his solo career. When his “Thong song” dropped in 2000 I remember it being the song of the year and everywhere it was being played or sung by someone, especially the summer of 2000. He managed to have a bit more success with his third solo single “Incomplete” that did go #1, becoming his highest charting single and went platinum as well. Sisqo really had the chance to grow to dominance throughout the 2000s musically, and be remembered as one of the best to ever do it. Yet no one talks about him nowhere close to in that way and for these reasons his growth was stunted.

What Happened To The Omarion Era In RNB? Stunted Growth Music
What Happened To The Omarion Era In RNB? Stunted Growth Music Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

Today’s feature is a guy that was on fire in the early 2000s and showed the potential to be the next it male act in rnb. It began with his participation in the group B2K as their lead singer and face. He could sing, dance, write and act as well, and at the time, all roads seemed to point to him being the 2000s version of and rnb superstar. Looking back did he fall below those expectations? There’s an argument to justify saying that he did, as he never went platinum as a solo artist, even though understanding not every artist goes platinum, but as far as potential, many saw him being an artist that could sell to the masses. He was also set to own or at least have his time where he was the it guy in rnb, having his very own era he can lean on and say I was the #1 guy and that didn’t happen. It didn’t last, but for a short time B2K were the it group and Omarion was expected whenever he went solo, to be even bigger than that. He has 7 solo albums, 2 of which went gold, his first 2 albums were #1 in the country, and he has an extensive film and television catalogue. But you can not be disappointing and still not have grown into your potential. For these reasons, Omarion’s growth was stunted, and he didn’t have the career expected. Competing In a Golden Era! What Happened To Mona Lisa? Stunted Growth Music
Competing In a Golden Era! What Happened To Mona Lisa? Stunted Growth Music Hotney 4 Streams • 3 years ago

In the 90s hip hop & rnb was at a very different place than it is right now for many reasons, specifically on the female side. Back then you had to have a lot work in your favor in order to be put in position to become popular. Now a days with connection to the world being at your fingertips, all it takes is a creative way to showcase your attributes and popularity can come to you. That or having some “it” about you and someone somewhere will put enough money behind how you’re viewed by the public and you’re in the door. No talent necessary. Of course there are talented artist that do deserve the notoriety they’re given and at the end of the day the only thing matters is did you accomplish what you set out to or not. They call the 90s the golden era of hip hop and rnb because of how much talent came up in that time, seemingly every other month there was a new artist being brought to the stage that had talent, “it” and whatever else that sent them on their way to the legends of the game fans look up to now in their older age. Mona Lisa came out right in the middle of it with her debut album 11-20-79 in 1996, her actual. Birth date, making her still sixteen years old on its June release. A hectic time in life for her and family, where she was approaching the age they would have to make an important decision for her future. Become a music industry star and follow whatever plan a label lays out for your life basically, or the less risky, traditional teen to young adult route of education first. She’d only release one album as she just disappeared from music all together. Competing In a Golden Era! What Happened To Mona Lisa? Stunted Growth Music

The Star Left Behind: What Really Happened To Sammie? Stunted Growth Music
The Star Left Behind: What Really Happened To Sammie? Stunted Growth Music Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

Sammie was one of those adolescent aspiring entertainers, that got his start at just 11 years old and was met with musical open arms by the industry, because he had a few things in his favor. He could sing of course, far beyond his years and having to take lessons, and he was comfortable in the camera’s eye and on stage and in public, where his mostly teenage girl fans flocked to get a glimpse of the superstar in the making do his thing. It takes most people a lifetime to just figure out their purpose in life, but for few like Sammie, everyone could see literally since day 1 he was meant to be a musical artist, and even a potential superstar. Although at the tail end of the perfect era for his unique opportunity, he still caught it and released his first album “From the bottom to the top” March 2000, after turning 13 years old a few weeks prior. The album eventually went gold and had two successful singles “Crazy things I do”, that was a top 40 rnb song, and the smash hit and Sammie’s most successful song ever “I like it”, that went gold by itself, shot to 8th on billboards rnb charts, and top 25 in the US regardless of genre.
