BBC FOUR pays tribute to musical maverick John Martyn, who died at the age of 60 on 29th January 2009, with an intimate documentary portrait originally transmitted in 1994. This honest and often blackly hilarious film shows Martyn at home in Ireland, during the lead-up to and aftermath of an operation to have one of his legs amputated below the knee.

Contributors include sometime collaborator and buddy Phil Collins, Ralph McTell, Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, fellow hellraiser bassist Danny Thompson, John's ex-wife Beverley Martyn and younger generation fan Beth Orton.

We see a man incapable of compromising his creative vision, from his folk club roots in the Sixties, through a career of continuous musical experimentation. Along the way there is a surreal roll-call of accidents and incidents, including a collision with a cow.

Took almost 3 years to produce due to funds (being students and from Toronto, ON Canada), crew dropping out (due to subject matter the more they got involved), Professors (that fought me and didn't see the vision), or just problems all together. Overall my vision from late 2005 beat the odds and my crew that was dedicated as I was, won Best Documentary presented by CTV Canada at the Sherdian MA Awards 2008. I have over the last couple of years wanted to expand it to a full length documentary, with the proper funds and Merle Allin on board. I know, we can finally pull off the ultimate GG Allin documentary! It could happen. But I will let the people decide based on the example student documentary. It’s hard to believe that she was voted “Least Likely to Succeed” in high school.

Dolly Parton’s songs have reached the number one spot on Billboard’s music charts twenty-five times. She owns one of the biggest and most successful theme parks in America. Dollywood gets over three million guests every year. She started her own non-profit organization with the goal of sparking young children’s love for books and reading to honor her father, who never learned to read or write. Her podcast, “Dolly Parton’s America” has been called the “Best Podcast of 2019” by Forbes magazine. With all of these milestones, it’s hard to believe that Dolly struggled with depression. She has seen her share of heartache and suffering. Especially after having an affair with Burt Reynolds. Thankfully, her dog, Popeye, was there to save her life. Through it all, she never lost her sense of humor. She said she knows some of the best Dolly Parton jokes because she made them up herself. Here is the true story of Dolly Parton.
