The world is doomed, but at least we've got the Mekons. For nearly 50 years, the British punk band has always done things its own way — out of stubbornness, survival or maybe a little bit of both. That snaggled-toothed sneer and smile, with some bittersweet sentimentality swirled in, can soundtrack any moment, but especially when everything feels fraught.
At the opening of this Tiny Desk concert, we're taken back 40 years to one of the band's many crossroads. Mekons' 1985 album, Fear and Whiskey, recognized that traditional country music was just as rowdy, randy and wayward as punk, and inadvertently pioneered the alt-country phenomenon. The joyous and desperate "Last Dance" is a song about falling in love during wartime — at the Tiny Desk, its past themes reverberate into the present. The middle of the set features two songs from this year's Horror: "War Economy," a post-punk-y throwback to the days when the Mekons would borrow Gang of Four's instruments to write and rehearse, and then "Sanctuary," which, as my colleague Ann Powers wrote, is "a children's rhyme that reveals itself as an elegy." Susie Honeyman, whose violin steadies the storm of Mekons, takes a rare vocal lead, her sing-songy voice like a wisp in a billowing wind.
Another classic from Fear and Whiskey bookends the Mekons' Tiny Desk. "Hard to Be Human Again" is a down-but-not-defeated barn burner that nonetheless needs to be sung loudly and in the company of fellow comrades who have also been "punched and beaten" by life or otherwise. And as long as Sally Timms, Jon Langford, Tom Greenhalgh, Rico Bell, Susie Honeyman, Dave Trumfio and Steve Goulding are around, I'll be there "searching for existence with my red, red wine."

The first time I saw Guster, the three members of the group, Adam Gardner, Ryan Miller and Brian Rosenworcel, were busking in a vacant storefront in Harvard Square. Two young college students singing harmony, earnestly playing their guitars, flanking a very energetic bongo player. I put a few bucks into the guitar case.
Since then, I've seen them with full orchestras in many cities, flown to see them at Red Rocks, and most recently stood in a sea of thousands at the On The Ocean festival the band curates and hosts each year in Portland, Maine. They have released nine albums and several live recordings, and always finds new ways to weave amazing sonic landscapes, tell meaningful stories and deeply engage with its fan base. But I have always felt Guster was a band made for the Tiny Desk, for the NPR Music audience. From that dirty little storefront in Cambridge to the best little venue in the world.
When Miller, Gardner and Rosenworcel finally made it to the Tiny Desk, Guster put on a show that featured old songs and new. They opened with "Manifest Destiny," an anthem dedicated to packing it all up and running away. The Washington DC Gay Men's Chorus provided beautiful harmonies on "Empire State." From Guster's most recent album, Ooh La La, "The Elevator" is a goodbye song that carries different meanings whether you think of it as a morning farewell to a small child or mourning a lost parent. Either way, "I'll miss you when I'm gone" is the message.
Watching this performance was an immensely euphoric, almost surreal moment. At one moment, Ryan and Adam once again played their guitars flanking Brian, and I got a flash of those same three earnest young men I saw on that summer day in Cambridge, Mass. A little older, but as wonderful as ever.

The inflatable flowers scattered across Anderson Park on the campus of the Aspen Ideas Festival were part of a zero waste initiative. Created by the Australian artist Cj Hendry, Bloom is a cross-section of Hendry’s ongoing exploration of botanicals and inflatables. Whimsical and naturally beautiful, this landscape is the perfect compliment to the brilliant Afro-Cuban singer Daymé Arocena. A dynamic performer con carisma y fuerza, her ebullient personality and performance shines brightly even under the hot Aspen sun.
Embellished by vocalists Ayme Canto and Hilaria Cacao, who takes a tenacious trombone solo in the first tune, their ensemble is exquisite despite. Arocena then performs three powerful solo arrangements, including two passionate blues compositions: “Mean,” written when she was just 15 years old, followed by “Coda” written earlier this year.

Whether through his recordings, live in concert or at the Tiny Desk, South African pianist and Zulu healer Nduduzo Makhathini has the ability to transfix an audience with his deeply meditative and engaging music. His work is lush with ancestral invocation, meditations on Blackness and spiritual exploration.
Here, Makhathini presents a cross-section of his works that he has dubbed for the Tiny Desk as the Ntu Sonicities Devotion Suite in Five Movements. His notes on the suite shared with the Tiny Desk team illuminate a thoughtful intentionality that is a hallmark of Makhathini's work.
Movement One: “Kuzodlula” is a meditation on stillness, an inward invitation towards emptiness and the ability to leave behind the denseness of life.
Movement Two: “Omnyama” is an invocation of “Blackness” through the incarnations of various African deities and divinities.
Movement Three: “Equidistant Passage” is a short reflection on Black aesthetics through three strategies: ritual, an ongoing rehearsal and study.
Movement Four: “Izinkonjana” is a song of grace and transcendence. It launches into a space of “zero gravity” like birds fly effortlessly through the clouds.
Movement Five: “Imvunge” is a protest, a song of victory, it celebrates conquest.
The performance from Makhathini, bassist Zwelakhe-Duma Bell le Pere and drummer Kabelo Mokhatla creates an immersive soundscape, interwoven with sung/spoken reflections in Zulu, sound design elements activated by a laptop and use of a vocoder. All of these elements invite the audience to participate in this act of devotion.

A common misconception of the Tiny Desk is that bands have to keep it quiet or go all-acoustic. So when I invited Ty Segall to play in our office, I made a point of assuring him he could crank his electrified, riff-heavy guitar noise to 11. His three-word reply came via email: "We shall rock."
True to his word, the band pushed the limits of the space with stadium-sized vibes, opening with the pulse-spiking "You're the Doctor," from the 2012 album Twins. They followed with the title cut from this year's Possession and the rolling, harmony-rich "Whisper" from 2021's Harmonizer. They closed out the set with a gritty take on 2010's "Girlfriend" and "My Best Friend," from last year's Three Bells. It's some of the most glorious shredding you'll ever see at the Tiny Desk.

Occasional sun flares showcase the beauty of Colorado near the main entrance of the Aspen Ideas Festival campus. Our crew decided to shoot here despite the nearby traffic and bustle of activity; the gorgeous view far outweighed the risk of noise.
The All-American Rejects lead singer Tyson Ritter took off his shoes and made himself comfortable in the grass as our crew worked to level the incline of the hill with a carpet-covered plywood board. At the start of the show, the band members walked up the dusty Meadows Trail, but had to pause for a moment to catch their breath. Ritter joked to the audience, “Can we all just take a breath together? We need some oxygen.”
Close to 8,000 feet, many of us struggled with the high altitude. But once the musicians collected themselves and started to sing, their delivery was strong. And even though this set includes most of the band’s greatest hits from the early aughts, it’s energetic, fresh and fun.

EPISODE 2: Three years after the murder of Punjabi hip-hop icon Sidhu Moose Wala, #BBCEye questions the gangster who says he ordered the killing.

On 29 May 2022, Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was murdered by hired hitmen who followed his car, shot him through the windscreen, and left him to die. As news of the killing spread across India and around the world, a gangster named Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the hit. But three years later, no-one has been convicted of this murder, the motives remain murky, and Goldy Brar is still on the run.
BBC Eye Investigations has been talking to some of the people closest to Sidhu Moose Wala, tracing his rise from obscurity to stardom, finding out how he made enemies of India’s most feared gang, and asking why they wanted him dead.
It’s a story that takes us from the villages of rural India to the hip-hop scene of eastern Canada, from the turbulant history of Punjab to the contested politics of modern India, and from the shadowy world of organised crime to a chilling phone call with the fugitive gangster, who says he ordered the hit.
Based on hours of unseen archive and exclusive access to Sidhu’s friends and musical collaborators, the film features voices that have never spoken to the media before.

They were the faces of one of the most iconic reality TV shows of the 2000s — Making the Band, created by Diddy. From the chaotic energy of Da Band, to the pop stardom of Danity Kane, to the R&B powerhouse Day26, these artists had it all: fame, hits, and millions of fans. But what happened after the cameras stopped rolling?
Behind the scenes, the pressure, label politics, and personal struggles took their toll. Some members tried to rebuild their careers independently, while others vanished from the spotlight. A few ended up in legal trouble — and in recent years, several former cast members have come forward with serious accusations against Diddy. From solo comebacks to explosive interviews and courtroom drama, their stories are as dramatic as the show itself.
This video breaks down what really happened to Diddy's Making the Band stars — the rise, the fall, and where they are now.

From Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Trippie Redd, DaBaby, and Ken Carson most recently.. As well as Bobby Shmurda who sold just 10 tickets per city, it feels like every month another mainstream rapper is quietly forced to cancel their shows and tour. But the question remains why? How are some of the industry’s hottest names struggling to sell tickets?

And today, we’re diving deep into the unraveling that comes when a young star is consumed by the very machine that made him.

#Camron is back with Sen City and gets into a few things that have been on his mind. He tells the full story on why he didn't promote #DameDash's movie "Honor Up" or the album with A-Trak. He explains he was basically forced into being in the movie and that he just didn't like how either project turned out in the end. They also talk about the time #Mase and Dame almost fought and why he chose to side with Mase. Cam also discusses the business of battle rap versus making songs with a long shelf life. To end the show, they debate whether it's weird for close friends to go out and buy the same exact car.

Karyn White's self-titled debut album Karyn White was released in 1988. It was produced by L.A. Reid and Babyface and achieved platinum status in the U.S.. The album contained the Hot 100 hit singles "The Way You Love Me", "Secret Rendezvous", and "Superwoman" as well as the No. 1 R&B hit "Love Saw It", a duet with Babyface himself. White was nominated in the Best R&B/Urban Contemporary New Artist category for the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards, which was won by Al B. Sure! She also received nominations for two Grammy Awards. She became the first female artist to have the first three solo releases from their debut album hit No. 1 on the R&B charts.
Her follow-up album was Ritual of Love in 1991. It had songs produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and featured the hit single "Romantic", which hit number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Other singles from the album include "The Way I Feel About You" (U.S. #12), "Walkin' the Dog", and "Do Unto Me" (the last two did not chart). The photographer and director Matthew Rolston directed the video for the hit single "Romantic". Michael Walls, who was credited as stylist on Ritual of Love, worked with White on the look for the Ritual of Love album sleeve, and three of the music videos released for the album. Walls had the idea for the Chanel-inspired pearls and black dress used on the album cover, the French maid look and multiple wardrobe changes for video of "The Way I Feel About You", and the "Walkin' the Dog" video, which was based on a scene from the film Sweet Charity.
Her next album was Make Him Do Right in 1994. The album did not sell well, although she did chart with the singles "Hungah" and the Babyface-penned "Can I Stay With You", which became her final U.S. R&B Top 10 hit in early 1995. "I'd Rather Be Alone", her last chart single to date, peaked at No. 50 on the same chart later that year. In 1995, White appeared with Mary J. Blige, Monica and others for the single "Freedom (Theme from Panther)" for the soundtrack to the Melvin Van Peebles film of the same name.
White left Warner Bros. Records in 1999, and dropped out of the music public eye for many years to start a family.
In 2006, she recorded a new album, titled Sista Sista; which was slated for release in 2006, but was shelved. Two tracks, "All I Do" and "Disconnected", were later released on the best of compilation album, Superwoman: The Best of Karyn White. She was also slated to appear on the Soul Train Music Awards in 2009 as a tribute to Babyface Edmonds. However, this performance was canceled when Edmonds and Reid withdrew from the Soul Train ceremony, declining the honor. In 2011, she was slated to have shot a pilot for a reality series with R&B singers Shanice and Debelah Morgan.
White released her first album after a seventeen-year break, Carpe Diem, in March 2012. The album featured the singles "Sista, Sista" and "Unbreakable," both of which received music videos.
She earned a 2017 UB Honors nomination for the Gale and the Storm soundtrack in the "Best Independent R&B Album Release" category.

Lyrics:
Look for the light if you're lost in the night
I'll write your name on my door
If you ever need warmth and comfort
Darlin', I'll be here to hold you near
I heard your name
'Cause you'll be my security
Love is a house, you got the key
(Oh, to take me where I wanna be)
Open up and let me into your heart (Ooh), baby
(Just look and you'll see)
(Love is a house and you got the key)
Open up and let me into your heart, baby
Look in my eyes, there'll be no surprise
You'll find the window to love
And I'll do anything in my power
To welcome you and please you too
But deep in my heart (Deep in my heart)
I know you're the one for me
Love is a house, you got the key
(Oh, to take me where I wanna be)
Open up and let me into your heart (Ooh, yeah), baby
(Just look and you'll see)
(Love is a house, you got the key)
Open up and let me into your heart (Oh, oh), baby
Love's a house, love's a home, I don't wanna be alone (No)
In your arms (Ooh), I'm happy to be
Open up, let me in (Let me in), I'm hungry for your love again
You got the key (Ooh), give it to me (Yeah)
When the night meets the morning
I'll hear you calling my name (TC)
And baby, you know if I answer
Things will never be the same (Never be the same)
But deep in my heart
I know that you're the number one for me
Love is a house, you got the key
(Woo, baby, take me where I wanna be)
Open up and let me into your heart (Ooh), baby
(Just look and you'll see)
(That you got the key)
Open up and let me into your heart (Ooh)
Love is a house, you got the key
(Love is a house, love's a home, I don't wanna be alone)
Open up and let me (Oh) into your heart (Open up), baby
(Open up, let me in, I'm hungry for your love again)
Open up and let me into your heart (Oh, darlin')
