Dame Dash's influence on hip hop should not go unnoticed. He's partly responsible for the success of countless artist, namely #jayz and other successful business ventures in and out the industry in the early 2000s. After coming up together with Jay-z as his artist, he began losing control as Jay got bigger. Eventually Jay-z got to a level where to him Dame was more of a risk than value. The way he talked to people in the industry rubbed many the wrong way and it caused he and Jay to grow distant. That led to a split between them and bad blood, especially expressed from Dash, who always felt slighted by how it all went down. Either way, Dame would be quietly blackballed in the industry and his potential as a music mogul was Stunted. What else Stunted Dame Dash's Growth? OUT NOW 🔥 🎤 🎼 🔥 🎥 Stunted Growth Music

Entertainers are not only slaves to labels and investors, but also to fans and critics. Lauryn Hill just wanted to be FREE! from all that. To me, she is the G.O.A.T female hip hop artist of all time off ONE ALBUM! Simply off creativity down to carefully selecting the environment to create. She made songs with a point and perspective, unlike the carefully targeted, pointless music female artist in hip hop make today. No you'll never see her remixing WAP, but in no circumstance can any female artist out today make a song like Doo Wop or Ex-Factor NO GHOST WRITERS. Had the music industry and personal struggles not get in the way, she could've been a top 5 great artist of any genre. Respect to the queen Ms. Lauryn Hill. Here's why her Growth was Stunted.

The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space.

Felix Contreras | January 12, 2022
It’s fair to say Mon Laferte is a musical chameleon. The Chilean vocalist’s output of late has covered a vast swath of musical styles from Latin America, from big-band mambo to electronic dance club jams with a hint of reggaeton, and a few stops in between. The secret to the successes of these stylistic changes is the level of imagination and creativity she infuses in each turn.

So, it didn’t surprise me that her contribution to our Tiny Desk (home) concert series is a visual treat as much as it is a musical one. The opening strains of “Tu Falta de Querer” introduce a cabaret-styled small orchestra and a character who appears to be left at the altar of a small intimate colonial church. She’s in torch-singer mode throughout the four-song performance; take these lyrics from the first cut: “Ahora domiré / Muy profundamente para olvidar / Quisiera hasta la muerte, para no pensar / Me forro pa’ quitarme esta amarguara” (“Now I'll sleep very deeply to forget I would like, until death, not to think. I erase you to take away this bitterness”)

The 10-piece small orchestra is a combination of Mexican folkloric music and European chamber music, mixing the ukulele-like jarana, an oboe, a tuba, and the violins often used in mariachi. The arrangements are the perfect vehicle for Laferte’s impassioned combination of blues and ranchera vocals.

There is much to appreciate in Laferte’s celebration of the spiritual (the church setting) and the passions of everyday life (her torch singing). In fact, I can’t think of many other vocalists who would be able to pull this off with as much grace, style and artistic vision as Mon Laferte does.

Lyrics

Oh yeah
What we're living in
(Let me tell ya)

Well, it's a wonder men can eat at all
When things are big that should be small
Who can tell what magic spells we'll be doing for us

And I'm giving all my love to this world
Only to be told
I can't see
I can't breathe
No more will we be

And nothing's going to change the way we live
Cos' we can always take but never give
And now that things are changing for the worse

See, whoa, its a crazy world we're living in
And I just can't see that half of us immersed in sin
Is all we have to give these

Future's made of virtual insanity now
Always seem to, be governed by this love we have
For useless, twisting, of our new technology
Oh, now there is no sound - for we all live underground

And I'm thinking what a mess we're in
Hard to know where to begin
If I could slip the sickly ties that earthly man has made
And now every mother, can choose the colour
Of her child
That's not nature's way

Well that's what they said yesterday
There's nothing left to do but pray
I think it's time I found a new religion
Whoa - it's so insane
To synthesize another strain
There's something in these
Futures that we have to be told

Futures made of virtual insanity - now
Always seem to, be governed by this love we have
For useless, twisting of our new technology
Oh, now there is no sound - for we all live underground

Now there is no sound
If we all live underground
And now it's virtual insanity
Forget your virtual reality
Oh, there's nothing so bad
As a manmade man
Oh yeah, I know yeah

Futures made of virtual insanity - now
Always seem to, be governed by this love we have
For useless, twisting of our new technology
Oh, now there is no sound - for we all live underground

Now this life that we're living
Is all going wrong and out of the window
Do you know that there is nothing worse than
A manmade man
There's nothing worse than
Living in a foolish mind

Virtual insanity is what we're living in

Perfect scene that explains the essence of digging, sampling, and beatmaking.

Two rappers on the rise to hip-hop stardom became fast friends — and even faster enemies, which may have led to their untimely passings.
Their worlds seemed destined to collide. They were two of the most talented hip-hop rappers on the scene. And they both were dedicated to exposing the truth of the tribulations of life on the streets, social injustice and the racial divide. But the biggest difference between Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls: They represented different coasts.
What exploded into arguably the biggest rivalry in music history, ended up in the death of both artists, just as their careers were skyrocketing. Tupac (also known as 2Pac) was gunned down on September 7, 1996, and died six days later, while Biggie (also known as the Notorious B.I.G.) was shot and killed six months later on March 9, 1997.
Neither murder has ever been solved. But one thing that there’s no question about is that they started off as friends.

July 18, 2016 by BOB BOILEN • Gregory Porter's healing soul music sends a message of compassion, and he's got a baritone voice that resonates love. When Porter visited NPR, we'd just learned that our colleague, photojournalist David Gilkey, had been killed while working on a story for NPR in Afghanistan. When Porter began singing the calmly beautiful "No Love Dying," he may not have known how much it would mean to us. Yet this song of compassion and hope, from his Grammy-winning 2013 album Liquid Spirit, was just what we'd needed.

Porter and pianist Chip Crawford continued their thoughtful, entrancing set with "Take Me To The Alley" (the title track to Porter's new album), a song about how we treat and think about those who live on society's margins. Closing this Tiny Desk concert is "Don't Be A Fool," another new song of love, loyalty and trust. For us, Porter's set provided a timely reminder that we can all use comfort, counsel and guidance — and that music can be serious and heartwarming without losing its sense of wonder and delight.

I went to Santa Monica, CA to ask random people to sing with me for my series called "Sing With Me." That's when I met Sara Beth, Mounica, and Mannie.

Mounica (born in India) sat and watched me play for several people who were singing. Then, eventually her friend convinced her to sing with me. I’m glad she did. Not only did Mounica have a good time singing, but she made us all happier listening to her. Also, it gave her an opportunity to share her great singing talent with the world.

Sara Beth sang several songs with me that day as well. Mannie helped us finish the show with one last song. And then, after 5 or 6 hours, I was done for the day!

As a musician, I'm all about creating musical experiences that have people feeling happy and free, and that's why the "Sing With Me" series exists. Since 2018, I have asked thousands of random people to sing with me on camera. A lot of people have said no, some have said no initially but changed their minds to yes, and some have said yes right away. I ask these people to sing with one purpose: to create a way for them to experience a sense of happiness and freedom they did not feel before. And much of the time, this actually works (and that makes ME happy).

Would you like me to host a "Sing With Me" at your next private event? Contact me for pricing and availability. https://www.guitaro5000.com/singwithmeprivate

James Brown being interviewed after being arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife with a lead pipe and firing a gun at a car she was in.

In a world exclusive, Australian Story unravels the legend of AC/DC front man Bon Scott, who was on the verge of becoming an international rock star when he died at age 33.

For the first time ever, the program has been granted access to Bon’s family and friends who provide fresh insights into his vulnerabilities and state of mind leading up to his untimely death in London in 1980.

The program features the first interview with Bon’s younger brother Derek and is introduced by Brian Johnson, Bon’s successor with the band.

Bruce Howe, a former bandmate who shared a house with Bon for five years, noticed a big change when he last saw him in late 1979.

“He wasn’t bubbly and laughing. Maybe he’d come to the state where he’d achieved his dream, he found his holy grail, but found that his holy grail might have looked like an empty goblet,” he told the program.

To this day, Bon Scott is considered one of the world’s best rock and roll singers.

The opening credits from the third season of the 1977-81 season.

Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney formed a personal bond and musical alliance in the early 1980s, collaborating on pop hits like 'The Girl is Mine' and 'Say Say Say'. But this soon soured when Michael Jackson acquired the ATV music catalog in 1985, and therefore the publishing rights of a near full catalog of Beatles hits.

This is a breakdown of the power struggle that followed in the years after and the growing resentment that grew between the two pop icons.

Using DOOM's lyrics but re-creating an entirely different vibe and feeling from his music and in doing so hopefully pay tribute to the legend. Using a variety of lofi/chillhop beats from various producers as the bed to lay the Super Villain's unique variety of lyrics, I hoped to achieve that and create "Lofi Villain." A 20 track tribute to your favorite rapper's favorite rapper to open the windows and listen to at 2 in the morning.

Throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, everyone followed the instructions laid out by this band to Jungle Boogie, Get Down on It and have a Celebration! When the members of R&B/Soul/Funk band Kool & the Gang formed in 1964, they never imagined what success awaited them in the next 2 decades. The ensemble, formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, originally consisted of seven school friends who decided to perform together as an instrumental jazz and soul group under the name The Jazz Birds who would later become the Jazziacs. Among them were Robert "Kool" Bell on bass guitar, his brother Ronald Bell on saxophone, Dennis "D.T." Thomas on alto saxophone, Robert "Spike" Mickens on trumpet, Ricky West on keyboards, George Brown on drums, and Charles Smith on guitar.
