Conocido como “El Cantante del Ghetto”, el reggaetonero colombiano Ryan Castro comenzó su carrera en el barrio Pedregal en Medellín, donde cantaba en los autobuses y en las calles buscando ser reconocido por su talento. “Empecé en el barrio con la esperanza de que mi vida cambiara”, dijo Ryan sobre ese momento de su vida al periódico El Tiempo. El cambio vino en el 2017 tras el lanzamiento de “Morena”, canción que le abrió las puertas ante un nuevo público en Latinoamérica. Tras más de cinco años de arduo trabajo, Ryan logró darse a conocer en el ámbito internacional con “Mujeriego”, una fusión de merengue y reggaetón que logró entrar en la lista Billboard Global 200. La canción fue una de tres en entrar a las listas entre el 2022 y 2023, las otras siendo “Jordan” y “Mercho”. Pero fue “QUEMA”, su colaboración con Peso Pluma, lo que llevó el perfil de Ryan a la cima. El reggaetonero boricua De La Ghetto, Karol G y J Balvin tocaron a su puerta y rápidamente le dieron su endoso al colombiano en grande. Ahora es tiempo de ver a la estrella brillar en el estudio de Vevo en Nueva York cantando en vivo sus hits “QUEMA” y “Ghetto Star” en el escenario de ctrl.

Known as “The Singer from the Ghetto,” Colombian reggaeton star Ryan Castro started his career in the humble barrio of Pedregal in Medellin, where the medallo sang inside buses and on bus stops looking for a chance to be recognized. “I started in the hood with the hope that my life would change,” Ryan said to newspaper El Tiempo about that time in his life. The chance for change came with the lift-off of 2017's “Morena." After more than five years of hard work, Ryan leveled-up and broke into the world stage with “Mujeriego”, a merengue and reggaeton fusion that entered the Billboard Global 200. The song was one of three that found their way into global charts between 2022 and 2023, along with tracks “Jordan” and “Mercho”. But it was “QUEMA,” his collaboration with Mexican corrido tumbado star Peso Pluma, that took Ryan to the top. Boricua rapper De La Ghetto, Karol G and J Balvin came knocking and cosigned the singer in a spectacular way. Now it’s time to watch Ryan shine at Vevo’s New York City studio performing his hits “QUEMA” and “Ghetto Star” live on the ctrl stage.

Once more we would like to stress that the limited edition series is meant for the die hard fans. Tell everybody you know who wants to buy 1 Muslimgauze CD a year, that there will be a 'Greatest Hits' (provisional title) CD, containing the best material from the previous set of limited CDs."

"You'll be lucky if you run across this 2 CD set. It is limited to 800 copies and hand numbered. It mixes the sound that I am more accustomed to in newer Muslimgauze with that of which Muslimgauze started. The end product is noisy, metallic, tribal, Arabic instrumentals. It may sound like a strange combination if you are unfamiliar with Muslimgauze's work, and it is a quite unique combination that no other band has attempted to create. The first track on the first CD is by far the most complex and best track on the album. It is 24 minutes long, which is a bit unusual compared to the rest of the album which primarily consists of shorter, less in-depth tracks about 3 minutes long. This is one of Muslimgauze's best, and if you pass it up, you will have made a big mistake, because you may not come across this extremely limited release again."

"Starting off with the quite lengthy first title track, which begins as a heavy-stomp monster that either is sampling a John Bonham drum part or is doing its best to sound like it is, then alternates between quieter and louder passages, 'Deceiver' is another excellent entry in the limited-edition release series begun by 'Izlamaphobia'. Like that other double-disc release, which showcased Bryn Jones moving into newer, less familiar sonic realms with his work, Deceiver has Muslimgauze working in extremis on a variety of fronts, if not quite as much (though pretty darned close nonetheless) as the earlier effort. One thing that definitely does carry over from Izlamaphobia is Jones' love for crunching drum and percussion sounds used in immediate, in-your-face approaches. Standouts in this vein, to name just two out of many, include "A Parsee View," one of the sharpest and most danceable things Muslimgauze released, with a massive beat and tight groove accompanied by what sounds like heavily-amplified clapping, and the very untypical "Herod-1," anchored around a pumped-up series of bass synth lines and a swirling, wordless female vocal sample. "Herod-2" takes the bass and gets even crazier with it, with backwards percussion and many strange twists and turns. The full blend of punch and experimentalism which characterized Izlamaphobia does crop up at points here as well, as with "Morsel of Sand," with several interlocked percussion lines, some quite clear and some heavily treated, accompanied only by a flute, and the body-rocking first "Jagdish Masjid of Light," which even has some wah-wah guitar snuck into the funk. The second "Jagdish" is no slouch either, with distortion and sonic overload worthy of Autechre to boot on top of everything else."

"The opening "Muzzel of Deceit" shows Muslimgauze continuing the work begun on 'Zealot', where dub-wise production techniques blend with drones and at times slamming beats, "Freedom Fighter" being a great example of this (why Muslimgauze hasn't been more readily sampled by other artists remains a mystery) to create a very modern form out of traditional types of music. "Bir Zeit" stands out here, due to its aggressive electronic feel and distorted rhythm track elements; though the track is mixed relatively low, it sets up an excellent air of looming menace thanks to the strange whispering throughout the track. "Futile Arad Search" is another fine piece; it relies on a strange percussion loop that seems constructed from anything but regular percussion instruments which are set against a slightly more conventional rhythm that surfaces from the wash of sound in the mix. Particularly striking is one part where little but a soft drum machine beat and the sudden shudder of a tambourine come to the fore. Other songs worthy of attention include "Fadhan", with its wheezing electronics layered below a traditional drum performance, the jaunty swing of "Bandit Queen", with its quirky keyboard hook, and the slow, compelling crawl of "Pakistani Nuclear Box"."
