Amy Jade Winehouse (14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011) was an English singer and songwriter. She was known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues, reggae and jazz.

This is one of Amy Winehouse's first performances in the Netherlands. At the time she was makIng a name in her home country and not yet the star she was to become in later years. This is how the organisation positioned Amy for her 2004 performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival:

AMY WINEHOUSE:
The young Amy Winehouse from North-London is one of the new, twinkling singer/songwriter stars. She doesn’t only have a remarkable, hoarse voice, reminiscent of Lauren Hill or even Billie Holiday, she also displays a form of straightforwardness that is typical of these modern times. Let’s make one thing clear: Winehouse may be only twenty, but her subjects are a lot wiser and more explicit than those of your average One Hit Wonder in the charts. She commands a lot of different styles as we can hear on her debut CD Frank. From seventies soul and modern R&B she goes straight into jazz classics that she gives the sweltering soul ballad approach. All in all, this wayward singer with a lot of grit in her is a newcomer to cherish. And what will she sound like live?

Welcome to the official North Sea Jazz Archive! On our channel you will find live performances and interviews of Jazz Legends like Lionel Hampton, Ray Charles, Maceo Parker, Herbie Hancock and many more, who have performed at the legendary North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands

Producer Pioneers: Honey Dijon Breaks Down Her Creative Process Hotney 6 Streams • 4 years ago

Producer Pioneers is a brand-new event series presented by Classic Album Sundays and Resident Advisor which will celebrate, educate and aim to inspire the next generation of women producers within the music production space.

Although there are steps towards a more balanced industry, today only a staggering 6% of producers identify as women, proving that there is still a huge bridge to gap until we are closer to a more equal and democratic situation. All sorts of barriers are faced by many women artists including tokenism within bookings, lack of access to resources, lack of confidence when dealing with a majority male landscape. Producer Pioneers aims to be a part of this solution, providing a platform and set of educational tools to support change and motivate the next generation of women producers.

Masterminded by DJ and producer, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, the series will unite some of the world’s most acclaimed women producers, kicking off the series is the unstoppable force of underground dance music, Honey Dijon. The conversation dives deep into her production methods, as well as breaking down her key musical influences.

Producer Pioneers is supported by Danley Sound Labs and Audio Technica – brands which fully understand the mission to create a more balanced and democratic future in the world of audio.

Lyrics...

I don’t give girls flowers
I give you good wood tho
If you want me all for yourself then
Darlin
You probably should go
There’s no way ima stand in the rain
I can still make you say my name
Say my name
Say my name
Life without me
Might drive you insane

I don’t give girls flowers
I give you good wood tho
If you want me all for yourself then
Darlin
You probably should go
There’s no way ima stand in the rain
I can still make you say my name
Say my name
Say my name
Life without me
Might drive you insane

Nah babe I can’t make your day
But I can make your night
See I ain’t the trusting type
It’s Lust not love n she said I’m done this time
Cuz You makes love to me like I’m the one
Then run off duck my calls for a month
Make me feel special and then like a mug
Got you up in my guts but I hate your guts
Ah come back darlin why you ranting
Girl I’m single and I always have been
I never promised you nuttin but panting
Sweating and plans on a late night antic
She said you don’t show me no respect
And you’re only calling me for the sex
I said at least I call cuz the rest just all come crawling

I don’t give girls flowers
I give you good wood tho
If you want me all for yourself then
Darlin
You probably should go
There’s no way ima stand in the rain
I can still make you say my name
Say my name
Say my name
Life without me
Might drive you insane

I don’t give girls flowers
I give you good wood tho
If you want me all for yourself then
Darlin
You probably should go
There’s no way ima stand in the rain
I can still make you say my name
Say my name
Say my name
Life without me
Might drive you insane

Might drive you crazy
Psycho
I’m wavy so I’m texting typos
But you know what I’m on come mine girl We can stay up all night till the light show

She said if I’m coming im coming to talk
Ain’t coming to cum cuz I’m done and I’m bored
I’m not some little whore
Who will come anytime that you call
We ain’t cool anymore

Ahhhhhh

Why you gotta be like that
You know you’ll miss me and you’ll be right back
And you’re not a whore you shouldn’t speak like that
I’m nuttin but honest you know how it is
The life that I live I don’t wanna chick
I don’t wanna settle
You know my favourite petal but

I don’t give girls flowers
I give you good wood tho
If you want me all for yourself then
Darlin
You probably should go
There’s no way ima stand in the rain
I can still make you say my name
Say my name
Say my name
Life without me
Might drive you insane

I don’t give girls flowers
I give you good wood tho
If you want me all for yourself then
Darlin
You probably should go
There’s no way ima stand in the rain
I can still make you say my name

Brahms: Symphonies - Music Documentary 1/2 | Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen Hotney 6 Streams • 4 years ago

Paavo Järvi: The Estonian star conductor has rediscovered the four symphonies by Johannes Brahms. The film follows him and the orchestra at rehearsals, in the studio and at concerts and presents the highlights of the romantic masterpieces.
Part 2: https://youtu.be/UlI_k3RCADs

Paavo Järvi is principal conductor at both the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich - but his most intensive collaboration is with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie in Bremen. Their collaborations have already inspired both press and audiences with dazzling interpretations of the symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann. Now the conductor and orchestra are focusing exclusively on the four symphonies of Johannes Brahms. "That music - because it is so great - somehow is a soundtrack not only to the time when it was written but it is actually quite a valid soundtrack to our times as well." Järvi says. The charismatic conductor conveys his enthusiasm for the masterpieces and gives important information for understanding them. "There are little hidden codes, which is up to us to figure out what they mean."

The conductor and orchestra take a lot of time to reinterpret these well-known symphonies. "When I conduct Kammerphilharmonie or have conducted them in the last couple of years it’s only been Brahms," he says. "And the focus is so concentrated that it has become a second nature. In fact it’s almost a kind of religious ritual for the orchestra: There is always rehearsal before the concert. It doesn’t matter how many times we have done the piece. And these are the moments where you tweak, you do little things, you fine-tune... It’s a luxury that so few orchestras have." Thus the rehearsals have become a musical laboratory.

The Brahms Code is director Christian Berger’s the third collaboration with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Paavo Järvi. The DW productions "Das Beethoven-Projekt” (2010) and "Schumann at Pier 2" (2012) have already delighted international audiences and won many awards.
