Amazon: http://amzn.to/2BBYj85

Barnes & Noble: https://tinyurl.com/y9qocn5u

From an independent bookstore near you: https://tinyurl.com/ycetl9sg

Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!

Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."

The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."

Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."

Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

Lyrics:
I hear your voice
But it never quite fills the void
Thought that we were two for good
But love is never like it should

I can arrange
Meeting a stranger
Forget you a day
But I can’t imagine
What even happens
Beyond the pain

See the sun leading us
To the land of the lost and the reasonless
Hear the drum beating us
I forever surrender

I don’t wanna live
A meaningless
I don’t wanna live
A meaningless
Life without you (X2)

I’m tired of good boys
Sleeping on my chest
You wanna rip my heart out
Baby be my guest
I hope you hear this song and reminisce
Cause without me your whole life
Is fucking meaningless

See the sun leading us
To the land of the lost and the reasonless
Hear the drum beating us
I forever surrender
The rest is meaningless
Meaningless

I don’t wanna live
A meaningless
I don’t wanna live
A meaningless
Oh I’ve been wasting my twenties
Filling glasses half empty
I don’t wanna live
A meaningless
Life without you

You’ve seen me down
You’ve seen me high
You’ve seen me dancing in the night
Now that you’re gone
You leave me crying
Alone in this meaningless life
(X2)

See the sun leading us
To the land of the lost and the reasonless
Hear the drum beating us
I forever surrender
The rest is meaningless

Lisa Marie Presley (1968-2023) and Michael Jackson (1958-2009) got married in May 1994. They divorced less than two years later (1996).

This is an epic interview by Diane Sawyer with the couple from 1995 and it was broadcasted live. A lot of difficult questions and hard feelings - Especially difficult for Lisa Marie.

M.J. met Elvis Presley and his young daughter Lisa Marie in late 1974 while performing with the Jackson Five in Las Vegas. And 20 years later MJ married her ( to watch a footage from the wedding, go to 15:30)

New song/video April out now. New album “But I’ll Wait For You” out April 19: https://i.localnatives.com/April

“But I’ll Wait For You” is the second half of a large body of music we made together, the first half we shared last year with “Time Will Wait For No One”. It’s a companion piece. A sister album. Maybe not an answer to a question, but an exhale to an inhale. So little is in our control, but among all this chaos we can choose to be there for each other. Thank you again to John Congleton, Michael Harris, and Danny Reisch, the incredibly talented producers who helped us bring these songs into their fully realized selves. This album will be yours on April 19th. Pre-save it here: https://i.localnatives.com/BIWFY

TURN on CC for LYRICS:
Close to the edge of the highest fall
Stare into the abyss as the story is told
Look at the depths, Rush into the hole
It will be a fast way down to enter the void
Deal with it! Forego!
Thorned roses grow
Call Upon the Storm!
´till the day comes
Give in to give up!
Swallow your hope
Deal with it! It's done!
Stillborn longing
Accept defeat when you feel yourself bound
Asuming everything that was sweet has turned to be sour
Is the greatest relief for those who´ve found out
That there´s just one way ticket from the top to the ground
Deal with it! Forego!
Thorned roses grow
Call Upon the Storm!
´till the day comes
Give in to give up!
Swallow your hope
Deal with it! It's done!
Stillborn longing
Reach the bottom of the deepest well
Here you go, it´s the hoped-for end
Deal with it! Forego!
Thorned roses grow
Call Upon the Storm!
´till the day comes
Give in to give up!
Swallow your hope
Deal with it! It's done!
Stillborn longing
Stillborn longing

Lyrics
Hey fellas
I'm talking to you you and you too
Do you guys know who I'm talking to?
Those of you who go out and stay
Out all night and half the next day
And expect us to be home
When you get there

But let me tell you something
The sisters are not going for that no more
Cause we realize two things;
That you aren't doing anything for us
We can do better by ourselves
So from now on we gonna use
What we got to get what we want
So you'd better think, think

It was the time when we haven't met?
That's the thing I never will forget
Now baby I got a whole lot to give
And a whole lotta loving
That a woman could give yeah

But before I give it up I gotta think think
Think what the future holds for me
Just go ahead and see
I don't need no heartache
I can't stand no misery
Let me think think

Lyrics:
We’re back on the streets, we’re taking the night
Turn up the heat, playin’ with fire
It never stops, it never ends
Play for keeps, take it to the wire

Hittin’ the gas, rippin’ some skids
Stalkin’ the streets, stickin’ it to the man
Midnight riders, born in fire
Twistin’ turnin’, ragin’ across the land
Marchin’ fury, we’re judge and jury
Vagabond souls, nowhere left to hide
Blackstar raiders, dawn crusaders
Knife in your back, comin’ round the bend

Back on the streets, takin’ the night
Turn up the heat, playin’ with fire
It never stops, it never ends
Play for keeps, take it to the wire

Sharpen the blades, takin’ a chance
Rollin’ the dice, flames gettin’ higher
Walkin’ the line, nitro dancin’
No!
We won’t stop for nothin’ now

Cracklin’ thunder, burnin’ rubber
Whirlwind power, leavin’ you for dead
Concrete brawlers, renegade stalkers
Twilight killers, prowlin’ the streets again

Blackstar raiders, dawn crusaders
Knife in your back, here we come again
Back on the streets, takin’ the night
Turn up the heat, playin’ with fire
It never stops, it never ends
Play for keeps, take it to the wire

Sharpen the blades, takin’ a chance
Rollin’ the dice, flames gettin’ higher
Walkin’ the line, nitro dancin’
No!
We won’t stop for nothin’ now

Turn up the heat, takin’ the night
Rollin’ the dice, walkin’ the wire
It never stops, it never ends
Play for keeps, we’re nitro power

Turn up the heat, takin’ the night
Walkin’ the line, playin’ with fire
It never stops, it never ends
Play for keeps, flames gettin’ higher
So, turn up the heat!

History is full of some truly startling and downright unfortunate experiences, especially when it comes to the field of music.

From Jimmy Hendrix to Kurt Cobain and Elvis Presley, what it boils down to is if you're a rock star, the chances of your life coming to a quick and sudden end are exponentially greater than the average joe.

That being said, not every famous musician goes out in such a dramatic way. Some stars end up fading gradually as their lives slowly crumble around them.

In this video, we're going to be discussing a musical star that was quite possibly one of the most interesting musicians of all time – Sammy Davis Jr. Sadly, the way he left this world was far from what he deserved.

Sammy overcame racism to establish himself as a legend! He became a successful comedian, dancer, actor, and singer. And as a part of the notorious Rat Pack alongside Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, he became known for starring in films such as Sergeants 3 and Ocean's 11.

Even though he amassed a great deal of wealth throughout his life, by the time of his death, Sammy Davis Jr. was completely penniless. Not only that, but he had also lost one of his eyes in a horrific accident that nearly killed him years prior.

Watch this video in full to learn how Sammy Davis Jr. Died Flat Out Broke with a Glass Eyeball.

Beyoncé has done a lot with her new album -- especially for Black country artists who might've been discouraged from diving into the genre ... so says one of her collaborators.

FLASHBACK: A Georgia judge was shocked when two "YSL" gang members rejected the state's plea deals before Young Thug's RICO trial started. "Young Slime Life" members Tenquarius Mender, aka Nard, faces 50 years if convicted of charges against him, while Derontae Bebee, aka Be, faces a life sentence. The judge asked the two co-defendants to reconsider the plea deal during a short break.

***GOOD VIBES SAVE LIVES***

In 2021 the Tiny Desk x globalFEST series was created to promote international music discovery. For the last three years, artists from around the globe have performed Tiny Desk (home) concerts from their respective countries, but for the first time this year we invited artists to perform at the Tiny Desk in NPR's headquarters.

Suraya Mohamed | April 1, 2024
Thandiswa Mazwai is one of post-apartheid South Africa's most influential musicians. For nearly 30 years she has championed a kind of dance music called Kwaito. The South African genre mixes a variety of rhythms and influences including hip-hop, reggae, jazz and house music.

This phenomenal set starts with “Nizalwa Ngobani?”, translated from the Xhosa language for “Do you know where you come from?” It’s dedicated to the ever-resilient people of South Africa. “I want to say to my people at home, thank you,” she says. “I am known worldwide because of you.” After, she sings a love song, “Ingoma” with the memorable hook “Ngoma we, ngoma we, ngoma we,” which loosely translates to “You are a song that I never get tired of.”

She dedicates the next song, “Children of the Soil,” to all the people around the world who find themselves struggling for freedom. “This is our time to use our voices,” she affirms. “This is the time for us to fight for freedom, wherever it is in the world.” “Children of the Soil” will be featured on her soon-to-be-released new album, Sankofa. And she finishes this set with the powerful “Abenguni,” and the catchy upbeat tune “Lahl’umlenze,” with its resilient hook: “Why does it matter how I dance?”

“BMF” continues the storyline of the inspiring true legends of brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory (Demetrius Flenory, Jr.) and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory (Da’Vinchi), who fostered one of the most influential crime families in the country known as, Black Mafia Family. We parachute into the early 90s in Season 3 with Meech moving to Atlanta, where he hopes to build upon the BMF empire in the south that he and Terry fostered in Detroit and rise to the top of the Atlanta drug scene. At the same time, Terry remains in the “D” to handle business. Charles Flenory (Russell Hornsby) and Lucille Flenory’s (Michole Briana White) marriage remains on the rocks, and Detective Bryant (Steve Harris) and Detective Jin (Kelly Hu) return as partners often on opposite sides of the law who find common ground in their determination to take down BMF. Additionally, season 3 includes special guest stars recurring throughout the season who cross paths with Meech and Terry in this next phase of their journey.

Michael Jackson teams up with director Bob Giraldi in a Pepsi commerical for the "new generation".
