========= Crossing the Rubicon feat. Nothing More LYRICS ==========

He is crossing the Rubicon

Hundred years before our lord, from the cradle to the sword
A sign of what’s to come, of what can be undone
On to conquest tempting fate, in the footsteps of the great
A consul on the move, he’s building bridges and his

Enemies enter the field
Knowing their fate has been sealed
Africa, Italy, Spain and Gaul will kneel

He is crossing the Rubicon
Heading home to where he belong
Born to rule it alone, the glory of Rome
He is crossing the Rubicon
Over the river at last, the die has been cast

Fortune does favour the brave, from the Senate to the grave
This man would seek it all, this man would heed the call
The republics doom and fall, he’s the man who caused it all
Dictator on the move, he’s burning bridges as his

Grip of the power of Rome
Secured as he heads for the throne
The 15th of March the knives would cut to the bone

========= Historic Fact ==========

Julius Caesar (100–44 B.C.) rose from a patrician family to become consul, reformer and Rome’s most celebrated general. He conquered Gaul, expanding Rome’s frontiers to the Rhine and Danube, then ignited civil war by crossing the Rubicon. Victorious across Italy, Greece and Egypt, he returned as dictator, introducing the Julian calendar and major reforms. His assassination on the Ides of March ended his rule but cemented his legacy as a brilliant strategist and leader who transformed Rome forever.

Lyrics:
She said she
Was headed over to see her mama
To try to clear her head she needed a little time
Said we could talk more about it later if you wanna
Walked out the door swore everything was gonna be alright
But it’s been four days and three nights of whiskey
And I ain’t heard a word from her and that’s what gets me
So tell me

How far
Does a goodbye go
Is it down to a corner bar
Or outta town in a getaway car
If it’s on a map this cowboy’s gotta know
Is it a couple miles away comin’ up the road or on a midnight train on a runaway track
How far does a goodbye go
Till it don’t come back

I might have been alright
If I’d seen her leavin’ comin’
Instead of sittin’ here striking up another front porch Marlboro Light
Is she big sky fast lane gone got the horses running
Looks like I’m on the wrong side of ridin’ off into the sunset this time
Tell me

How far
Does a goodbye go
Is it down to a corner bar
Or outta town in a getaway car
If it’s on a map this cowboy’s gotta know
Is it a couple miles away comin’ up the road or on a midnight train on a runaway track
How far does a goodbye go
Till it don’t come back
Till it don’t come back

It’s been four days and three nights of whiskey
And I ain’t heard a word from her and that’s what gets me
So tell me
How far
Does a goodbye go
Is it a couple miles away comin’ up the road or on a midnight train on a runaway track
How far does a goodbye go
Till it don’t come back
Till it don’t come back

Tony Yayo on 50 Cent, Eminem, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Young Thug & Gunna Hotney 1,374 意见 • 1 年前

Visit https://prizepicks.onelink.me/LME0/SHANNON and use code SHANNON and get $50 in lineups when you play your first $5 lineup!

Tony Yayo joins Shannon Sharpe at Club Shay Shay for a raw, unfiltered conversation about his life, his career in hip hop, and the brotherhood behind G-Unit. Yayo starts by comparing life in Europe to America, saying liquor tastes better, food is healthier, and there aren’t guns everywhere like in the U.S. Fresh off tour in Europe with Chris Brown in Manchester, he talks about how Washington D.C. feels dangerous today with residents scared to drive their own cars. Yayo reflects on growing up in the Southside of Jamaica, Queens, calling it the best borough in New York over Brooklyn and the Bronx. He shares that his parents are from Haiti, and explains how he got the name “Tony Yayo” from Scarface.

He dives into his upbringing, recalling his strict parents, and saying their divorce led him toward the streets and drug dealing. He remembers being robbed at gunpoint for a Starter jacket, his mom’s house being shot 22 times, and even had $100K thrown away by his mother.

Yayo reflects on hip hop beefs, loyalty, and survival. He says he’ll never be mad at DJ Khaled for siding with Fat Joe during the feud with 50 Cent. He remembers riding in a bulletproof truck riddled with bullets, the murders of PnB Rock and Pop Smoke, and why he prefers hanging with his lawyer over rappers. He recalls being harassed by hip hop police when G-Unit was labeled “the most dangerous rap group in the world.” He praises Eminem as his “favorite white boy in the world,” calls Dr. Dre one of the best producers, and says Eminem listens to details like “the footsteps in Poltergeist.” He talks about how Eminem’s cosign made Joe Budden’s career, how Kanye West was around before fame, and how 50 Cent would turn down million-dollar deals.

Yayo opens up about being starstruck partying with Mike Tyson, Venus and Serena Williams, Wesley Snipes, Samuel L. Jackson, the Kardashians, and even the owner of Ray-Ban. He recalls Mike Tyson telling him to expand his horizons, leading him to caviar. He talks about performing with Cash Money, almost signing J. Cole and Nicki Minaj to G-Unit, and Atlanta artists like Outkast, Jermaine Dupri, and Lil Jon. He says Biggie was a better songwriter than Ice Cube, praises Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Ghostface, Slick Rick, KRS-One, LL Cool J, and Heavy D, and discusses Nipsey Hussle’s death in his own neighborhood.

He reflects on modern rap and street culture — drill music glorifying murder, rappers like King Von, BloodHound Lil Jeff, and Q50 rapping about their crimes, and why kids today flaunt guns with switches on Instagram. He talks about Tekashi 6ix9ine snitching, Fat Joe enjoying Gunna’s music despite controversy, and whether Young Thug and Gunna might reconcile. He weighs in on Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar beef reminding him of Nas vs. Jay-Z and Tupac vs. Biggie, and why Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are the only artists making real money in streaming today.

From doing time in Rikers Island with Diddy’s bodyguard to meeting Donald Trump after jail, from charity work with the Knicks to investing in real estate, Yayo tells it all. He talks about loyalty, losing friends, being stabbed, doing Hot Ones as its first guest, and being starstruck by Nas, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and John Cena. Through it all, he credits 50 Cent, Jay-Z, and Eminem for inspiring him to handle his money wisely — while never forgetting the streets that raised him in Queens.

Michael Mayo: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 16 意见 • 1 年前

Mitra I. Arthur | September 8, 2025
Michael Mayo uses every muscle within his throat when he sings. From his deep baritone chest to wonderfully fluttering head voice, he joyfully bends notes to his will and for our enjoyment at the Tiny Desk.

I was first introduced to Mayo’s voice when he participated in a master class with jazz titan Dianne Reeves during the 2013 American Voices festival at the Kennedy Center. As he folded his voice around the standard "It Could Happen to You," Reeves prompted him to follow her as she began to scat. Without hesitation, Mayo harmonized and traded back and forth with Reeves as if they had rehearsed it (they had not), thoroughly impressing her and the audience. As I watched from off-stage, I thought, “Oh, this cat has it.” He exists in a lineage of similarly dexterous singers like Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau and Betty Carter.

In the years since, Mayo has established himself as a presence in the intersection of jazz, soul and R&B. His albums, Bones and Fly, showcase his nimble vocals, thoughtful lyrics and intricate compositions, and have generated collaborations with bassist Linda May Han Oh and drummer Nate Smith, and touring opportunities with pianist Herbie Hancock.

Here, Mayo presents a selection of songs that invite you into his wondrous artistry. Alita Moses, India Carney and Tomás Cruz showcase their own skillful vocal agility in their handling of Mayo’s vocal arrangements. Pianist Andrew Freedman, drummer Robin Baytas and bassist Nick Campbell Destroys are locked in at every turn. As Mayo prepares to shift into the final song in the set, he drops into an intricate scat, his voice hopscotching, bending, soaring, resting for a moment and reigniting in percussive sound.
